Job description

A leading cosmetics company located in Cape Town is urgently seeking an experienced Regulatory Chemist to join their team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Formulating and facilitating the development of innovative cosmetics products.
  2. Providing updates on R&D progress and insights, and participating in project team decisions.
  3. Creating and maintaining necessary documentation for product development and commercialization (lab notebooks, specifications, test methods, data, etc.).
  4. Conducting testing on all developed products (efficacy, stability, etc.).
  5. Following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  6. Being hands-on in the laboratory with experience operating basic lab equipment.
  7. Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  8. Collaborating with production to transition formulations to full-scale manufacturing, including support during plant trials or start-up.
  9. Supporting current brand products in the market.
  10. Identifying solutions for manufacturing issues, qualifying alternative raw materials, and finding ways to reduce product costs.
  11. Proactively researching new concepts, materials, and technical opportunities.

Key requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline (cosmetic chemistry, chemistry, biological sciences, or chemical engineering preferred); a master's degree is also desirable.
  2. At least 5 years of relevant experience.
