Key Roles and Responsibilities
As a QA/QC Inspector at Leita Steel, you will play a vital role in pre-weld quality control, focusing on fit‑up and assembly inspections to prevent defects and ensure seamless progression to the welding bay.
Daily duties include:
Pre-Weld Inspection and Verification
- Conduct detailed visual and dimensional inspections of fit‑up work performed by boilermakers and assemblers, checking for alignment, gaps, distortions, and assembly errors.
- Verify that components are assembled within specified tolerances per project drawings, SANS 2001‑CS1, and AWS D1.1 standards.
- Ensure all materials and sub‑assemblies conform to Leita Steel’s quality plans, material certifications, and ISO 9001/3834 requirements before release to welding.
Non‑Conformance Management
- Identify and document deviations, such as out‑of‑tolerance fits or workmanship issues, issuing non‑conformance reports (NCRs) and recommending corrective actions.
- Collaborate with production teams to resolve issues during the production process, minimizing downtime and rework.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, including photographs, measurements, and checklists, for traceability and audit purposes.
- Prepare daily/weekly inspection reports for submission to the QA/QC Manager, highlighting trends in fit‑up quality and potential improvements.
Support and Compliance
- Assist in material receipt inspections to confirm incoming steel components meet specifications.
- Participate in internal quality audits and training sessions to promote adherence to fabrication standards.
- Support the QA/QC Manager in coordinating with third‑party inspectors when required for high‑risk projects.
