Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to manage the internal electrical engineering team and provide technical support for all electrical aspects of projects. Responsibilities include overseeing electrical engineers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and managing relationships with external consultants. Candidates should have a BSc or NDip in Electrical Engineering and at least 15 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering and project management. Qualifications

  • 15 years in electrical engineering (BSc Eng/Pr Eng).
  • 15 years in electrical engineering (NDip/Pr Tech).
  • Transmission and distribution experience.
  • HV, MV and LV experience.
  • 2-3 years experience in renewable generation.
  • 5 years design experience.
  • 2-3 years construction experience.
  • 2-3 years experience in grid connection studies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage activities of the electrical engineering department.
  • Oversee electrical engineers and performance engineers.
  • Liaise with utilities for grid connection works.
  • Compile technical electrical specifications and Employer's Requirements.
  • Ensure designs meet client requirements and safety regulations.

Job description
Overview

The lead electrical engineer manages the internal electrical engineering team and provides technical support on all electrical aspects of the projects during the development, transaction, execution and operational phases.

Responsibilities
  • Managing the activities of the electrical engineering department aligned with the Head of Engineering
  • Managing electrical engineers and performance engineers who report directly to the lead electrical engineer
  • Managing external electrical engineering consultants
  • Managing Control & Instrumentation and SCADA Engineering
  • Liaising with utilities and off-takers for grid connection works
  • Technical evaluation of RFP documents and PPAs
  • Compiling concept/FEED level electrical designs at Development and Transaction phases for interconnection/grid connection and internal plant works
  • Compiling cost estimates for financial model purposes for electrical works
  • Producing bid deliverables relating to electrical works and grid connection
  • Compiling technical electrical specifications and Employer's Requirements
  • Compiling RFP/RFQ documents (drawings, specifications, returnable documents) for EPC Contractors
  • Technical evaluation and negotiations with EPC Contractors
  • Supporting Project Engineers during execution phase of projects
  • Ensuring designs and installations meet client requirements and safety regulations
  • Supporting Project Managers, Construction Managers, Electrical Site Supervisors and Commissioning Managers during execution
  • Reviewing and accepting detailed AFC electrical designs produced by external consultants/contractors
  • Managing Grid Code Compliance Requirements
  • Overall responsibility for the engineering team to support project development, achieve financial close, and execute projects to COD and facility acceptance within budget, timelines and quality standards
Minimum Educational Qualifications
  • BSc Electrical Engineering or National Diploma (NDip) Electrical Engineering
  • Pr Eng or Pr Tech or equivalent chartered engineer qualification
Minimum Previous Experience
  • 15 years in electrical engineering (for BSc Eng / Pr Eng)
  • 15 years in electrical engineering (for NDip / Pr Tech)
  • Transmission and distribution experience
  • HV, MV and LV experience
  • 2‑3 years experience in renewable generation
  • 5 years design experience
  • 2‑3 years construction experience
  • 2‑3 years experience in grid connection studies
