A top-tier national law firm in South Africa is looking for an experienced Legal Director to join its Infrastructure, Projects & Energy team. The role involves managing complex contracts, advising on major mandates, and mentoring junior lawyers. Responsibilities

A leading national law firm with a market‑leading Projects & Energy practice is seeking an experienced Legal Director (8 PQE+) to join its highly regarded Infrastructure, Projects & Energy team in Manchester. This hire forms part of the firm’s ongoing growth strategy in response to continued demand across social infrastructure, energy and utilities, and transport.

This is a standout opportunity for a senior projects lawyer to join one of the most established and respected multi‑disciplinary teams in the UK, advising on innovative, high‑value projects that frequently make national headlines.

The Role
  • Lead and manage complex commercial contracts relating to energy infrastructure, utilities and transport.
  • Advise on the full spectrum of issues across major infrastructure and energy mandates for developers, funds, corporates, and financial institutions.
  • Play an active role in shaping team strategy, identifying new opportunities, and developing client relationships.
  • Support the development of junior lawyers, taking a leadership role within the team.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial documents, manage transaction processes, and oversee junior fee‑earners.
  • Engage in business development, networking and delivering training to clients and internal teams.

The Team

  • Social Infrastructure: advising on major healthcare, education, housing, regeneration and local government projects globally.
  • Energy & Utilities: pathfinder projects including large‑scale resilience programmes, nuclear new‑build, and national utilities infrastructure.
  • Transport: extensive work across rail, urban transit, ports, freight, logistics and transport hubs, acting for central government departments, transport authorities and major operators.

Clients include funds, developers, asset managers, operators, energy and utility companies, government bodies and large public authorities. The team regularly advises on groundbreaking, first‑of‑their‑kind projects in the UK and internationally.

What We’re Looking For
  • 8 PQE+ in Infrastructure, Projects, Energy and/or Transport.
  • Experience supporting complex, multi‑disciplinary transactions.
  • Strong national‑level experience advising energy‑sector clients (preferred).
  • A collaborative, client‑focused approach and confidence handling intellectually challenging work.
  • Enthusiasm for business development and contributing to the wider growth of the team.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing junior colleagues.
