Job summary

A leading technology-driven organisation is looking for an experienced DevOps & Infrastructure Lead in Johannesburg to transform its infrastructure into a modern DevOps capability. This strategic role includes operational management, implementing IaC practices, and overseeing AWS environments. Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years in infrastructure and at least 3 years in leadership. Certification in AWS and strong automation skills are advantageous. A competitive monthly salary between R70,000 and R75,000 is offered.

A leading technology-driven organisation is seeking an experienced DevOps & Infrastructure Lead to drive the transformation of its traditional infrastructure and support function into a modern DevOps-oriented capability. This is a strategic leadership role combining operational accountability with technical direction to ensure the stability scalability and modernisation of critical platforms and systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Transformation & Strategy
  • Lead the transition from traditional infrastructure to a DevOps-driven operating model
  • Establish and embed Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices across all environments
  • Implement observability monitoring and reliability frameworks
  • Drive automation and AI-enabled efficiencies to reduce manual workload
  • Maintain system stability uptime and compliance throughout the transformation
Infrastructure Automation & Observability
  • Design automate and manage cloud and on-premise hosting environments
  • Implement and maintain IaC using tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Establish comprehensive monitoring across servers databases and services
  • Analyse operational trends and automate resolutions to recurring issues
  • Maintain high availability targets (99.7% uptime)
DevOps Enablement
  • Collaborate with development teams to support containerisation CI / CD and release automation
  • Champion developer enablement through improved internal tooling and workflows
  • Ensure environment consistency security and scalability through shared standards
Security Compliance & Governance
  • Enforce ISO 27001 : 2022 technical controls and secure configurations
  • Align with information security risk and disaster recovery practices
  • Manage change governance through CAB processes and post-implementation reviews
  • Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance efforts
Platforms & Systems Management
  • Oversee AWS and on-premise infrastructure including EC2 VPC Fargate SQS RDS and related services
  • Manage Linux environments NGINX PHP runtimes MySQL and MongoDB
  • Maintain domains DNS and Microsoft 365 environments
  • Ensure effective backup recovery and capacity planning
Documentation & Leadership
  • Maintain high-quality infrastructure documentation (diagrams SOPs architecture artefacts)
  • Build and mentor a high-performing systems administration team
  • Promote a culture of accountability continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Represent infrastructure within internal operational forums
Key Requirements
  • Minimum 7 years experience in infrastructure or systems administration
  • At least 3 years leadership or team management experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with AWS and DevOps practices
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g. Terraform Ansible)
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001 : 2022 implementation and compliance (advantageous)
  • Experience with CAB patch cycles and disaster recovery frameworks
  • Strong automation and scripting experience
Qualifications (Advantageous)
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
  • CompTIA Linux
  • ITIL or ISO 27001 certifications
  • Formal IT qualification (or equivalent experience)
