Overview
The HV & Grid Electrical Engineer (Site) will provide technical oversight and engineering support for all high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) activities, including substation works, network integration, and grid compliance for utility-scale Solar PV projects. One engineer will be assigned to each site to support construction, commissioning, and energisation activities.
Key Responsibilities
HV / MV Network Oversight
- Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of HV / MV equipment including transformers, switchgear, cabling, and protection systems.
- Ensure correct integration of project substations into the utility network and compliance with design and standards.
- Monitor EPC and subcontractor work quality, safety, and technical compliance.
Substation Integration & Protection Support
- Support protection relay settings, configuration, and verification.
- Review SCADA, metering, communications, and protection interfaces required for grid connection.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and equipment performance evaluations.
Commissioning & Energisation
- Provide engineering support during commissioning and energisation stages.
- Assist with HV switching operations in collaboration with the utility and System Operator.
- Verify commissioning records, test results, and as-built documentation.
Grid Code Compliance & Testing
- Assist with planning and execution of grid code compliance tests.
- Support preparation of documentation and evidence submissions to the utility / System Operator.
- Ensure all test results meet regulatory requirements.
Technical Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with EPC teams, OEMs, protection engineers, and utility representatives.
- Provide technical reporting, daily / weekly progress updates, and risk logs.
- Review technical drawings, SLDs, protection diagrams, and network study outputs as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements
- NDip / BTech / BSc in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current / Power Systems preferred).
- Approximately 10 years experience in HV / MV systems, substations, or utility / grid integration.
- Proven experience with protection systems, commissioning, FAT / SAT, and energisation support.
- Strong understanding of grid code requirements and compliance testing.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Familiarity with power system studies and relay coordination tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently on remote project sites.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Experience in renewable energy or Solar PV grid-tie projects (advantageous).
