Role Purpose

To ensure that the right people are in the right roles, performing optimally, supported by fair processes, clear expectations, and strong systems — while maintaining a healthy, respectful, and productive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • People, Culture & Engagement
    • Act as a trusted, confidential advisor to staff and management.
    • Proactively engage with employees to ensure a healthy, respectful, and high-performance culture.
    • Mediate conflict, manage grievances, and support staff wellbeing.
    • Ensure staff feel heard, supported, and accountable.
  • Recruitment & Talent Management
    • Manage end-to-end recruitment, screening, and onboarding.
    • Design and implement skills assessments, role-specific testing, and psychometric evaluations.
    • Ensure correct role fit through structured and objective hiring processes.
  • Performance, Productivity & Time Management
    • Design, implement, and manage KPIs and KPAs across all roles (including management).
    • Monitor staff activity, hours worked, billable vs non-billable time, and productivity trends.
    • Identify redundant or inefficient use of time and recommend improvements.
    • Work closely with management to optimise workforce utilisation and performance.
  • Labour Relations & Compliance
    • Manage disciplinary processes, hearings, warnings, and terminations.
    • Ensure compliance with South African labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA, POPIA).
    • Prepare and manage CCMA-related matters where required.
    • Draft, maintain, and update HR policies, procedures, and employment contracts.
  • HR Systems & Reporting
    • Manage and optimise HR and people-related software systems.
    • Ensure accurate record-keeping, reporting, and compliance.
    • Produce regular HR, performance, and productivity reports for management.
  • Training & Development
    • Identify skills gaps and training needs.
    • Implement performance improvement plans (PIPs) and development initiatives.
    • Support coaching and growth of staff aligned with business needs.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, or a related field.
  • 6–12 years’ experience in a senior HR or HR generalist role.
  • Proven experience managing a team.
  • Disciplinary hearings and terminations.
  • Recruitment and psychometric testing.
  • Performance management frameworks.
  • Labour law compliance and CCMA processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of HR systems and time-tracking tools.
  • Experience in SMEs or professional services environments will be an advantage.
Personal Attributes
  • Mature, emotionally intelligent, and highly professional.
  • Firm but fair leadership style.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and accountability.
  • Comfortable operating independently and taking full ownership of the HR function.
