Job description

The Day Hospital Manager’s overall responsibility is to manage and control the operational environment of a day hospital. Furthermore, the Hospital Manager is responsible for the end-to-end operational execution within the area of responsibility and will assume the overall leadership and delivery of operational performance. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, evaluating, and reviewing all activities necessary to the hospital’s management.

The incumbent will be responsible for liaising with various stakeholders to ensure business growth, sustainability, and continuous improvement of business processes to increase market share and business competitiveness. The incumbent will be required to promote the facilities strategic priorities and initiatives.

  • Ensure timeous submission of all supplier invoices for payment.
  • Participate in business planning and budgeting processes and manage nursing costs according to budget.
  • Ensure compliance with finance month-end process.
  • Monthly variance reporting.
  • Provide strategic direction and implement key performance areas for the business.
  • Identify areas for change and new business opportunities for the business.
  • Identify areas to improve operational efficiencies to ensure sustainability.
  • Provide emergency care to patients in a crisis.
  • Manage change in integrated health care delivery systems, such as work restructuring, technological innovations, and shifts in the focus of care.
  • Evaluate the patient’s journey through patient experience and stakeholder input
  • Timeous resolution of complaints.
  • Monitor safety standards in accordance with the Machine and Occupational Safety Act (Act 6 of 1983).

Requirements

An appropriate three-year tertiary qualification.

A post-basic qualification in Operating Room Nursing Science will be advantageous.

A Nursing administration and or management qualification will be an advantage

At least 5 years’ experience in a senior managerial position, preferably in a hospital environment and / or service-related environment.

Experience in administration, financial, operations and human resources management (including communication and training)

Basic understanding of hospital operations.

Sound financial and budgeting knowledge is essential.

A detailed understanding of financial and business management principles.

Good knowledge of the healthcare industry.

Relevant computer proficiency.

Strong negotiating skills.

Resilience within a complex and challenging environment.
