Job description
Overview

We are seeking a Harvesting Supervisor for a permanent role based in Stutterheim, Eastern Cape.

Applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 with at least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role within a forestry environment
  • A relevant tertiary qualification would be an advantage and must be fluent in Xhosa
  • Must be organized and systematic and able to use initiative
  • Must be willing to work additional hours as and when required
  • Required skill set: Supervision, Coaching, Managing Processes, Process Improvement, Tracking Expenses, Production Planning, Dealing with Complexity

The successful applicant would be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Supervise production staff / ensure that they adhere to production procedures & production targets met
  • Record daily production performance schedule and report to the relevant people
  • Supervise the use of company property and equipment under your control
  • Ensure that all equipment have logbooks/checklists and they are completed as per the company standard
  • Ensure the timely maintenance of company equipment under your control
  • Quality control
  • Ensure the correct log lengths optimisation is achieved, and correct colour code and numbering system
  • Ensure correct processing is done for each log
  • Assist in production procedures when required, i.e.: log marking, operating machines, etc
  • Accurate completion of staff time sheets on a weekly basis
  • Apply corrective disciplinary procedures, fairly and in a progressive manner
  • Monitor and report buffer stock every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning before 9am
  • Monitor the age of timber stacks and report if timber is 3 weeks or older
  • Ensure that all safety standards and procedures are adhered to by the team under your supervision
  • Operate machinery when required
  • Ensure back-up operators are trained and ready at all times
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting and training employees, developing personal growth opportunities
  • Ensure operators and safety personnel are certified at all times

Salary: Market related
