Job Description

A well-established business within the farming industryis looking for a highly competent and detail-oriented half-dayBookkeeper to take ownership of the full bookkeeping function. This is a half-day, mostly remote role, requiring availability to meet with the CEO in Somerset West once to twice per week. This is a 3-month fixed term contract to be extended or made permanent.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a disciplined and proactive finance professional with solid experience in the South African financial and tax environment, who enjoys working independently while remaining closely aligned with senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Full bookkeeping function up to trial balance using Xero

Preparation of monthly management accounts, including variance analysis, income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

Provide insightful commentary on variances against budget.

Submission of bi-annual VAT returns and monthly PAYE, UIF, and SDL

Management of all SARS eFiling submissions and correspondence

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare and submit bi-annual VAT returns via eFiling .
  • Calculate and process monthly PAYE , UIF, and SDL payments.
  • Assist with the preparation of supporting documents for income tax returns (ITR14).
  • SARS eFiling & Liaison: Expertly manage all company submissions and correspondence through the SARS eFiling platform. Handle queries and ensure compliance with SARS regulations.
  • Audit Support: Play a key support role during the annual financial audit. Prepare all necessary schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for external auditors.
  • Reconciliations: Perform and review key reconciliations including bank accounts, creditor and debtor accounts, and control accounts.
  • Creditors & Debtors: Manage the full creditors' cycle (processing invoices, payments, and reconciliations) and oversee the debtors' book, ensuring timely collections.
Requirements

Relevant finance or accounting qualification required

5 years’ experience in a full-cycle bookkeeping role in South Africa

Strong working knowledge of Xero and SARS eFiling
