Responsibilities
  • Drafting and vetting of contracts
  • Providing legal and contractual advice across business areas
  • Labour law and HR support, including disciplinary matters
  • Managing litigation, including liaison with external attorneys and counsel
  • Reviewing and advising on internal policies and procedures
  • Representing Legal at Compliance, Risk and Legal Committee meetings
  • Supporting internal initiatives with legal input and risk mitigation
Minimum requirements
  • LLB degree
  • Admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa
  • Minimum 5 years post-articles legal experience, with at least 3 years in a commercial legal environment
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and provide commercially practical legal advice
  • Previous in-house legal counsel experience within financial services
  • Exposure to FAIS, FICA, POPIA and other regulatory frameworks applicable to financial services
  • Experience with labour law matters
  • Familiarity with litigation processes and briefing of counsel
  • Knowledge of corporate finance or M&A
  • Afrikaans language proficiency (advantageous but not essential)
