Sanlam Alternative Investments (SAI)
The purpose of Sanlam Alternative Investments (SAI) is to build the African continent and support sustainable development in emerging economies. SAI capabilities include Private Equity, Specialised Finance, Property, Infrastructure and Partnerships. Sanlam is the biggest non-banking financial institution on the continent, operating in Africa for over 100 years.

What will you do?

4 months contract for a Financial management professional responsible for the financial, treasury and regulatory reporting for the vehicle which it advises, Sanlam Africa Core Real Estate Investments Limited (SACREIL), domiciled in Mauritius and its subsidiary entities and entities in which SACREIL has an ultimate ownership stake. This role contributes to and supports the financial decision-making process of the SAREA executive team and advisory committee.

Responsibilities
  • Outsourced Financial Management of SACREIL
  • The SACREIL group is managed by its Board with assistance from the Audit and Risk Management Committee (ARMC). Investment and portfolio management functions are outsourced to SAREA; administrative, compliance and company secretarial functions are outsourced to Intercontinental Trust Limited (ITL). The role will continue to improve internal financial controls across SACREIL and manage relationships with the ARMC and ITL with respect to:
  • Management accounts, including accounts for all SACREIL subsidiaries and other investment entities in Mauritius and relevant countries where its properties are located
  • Quarterly financial reporting to the ARMC and SACREIL Board
  • Quarterly reporting on the ARMC terms of reference checklist
  • Review of the quarterly Advisory Fee due to SAREA
  • Review the dividend computation per SACREIL’s dividend policy and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Liaison with auditors for SACREIL and its investee entities
  • Preparing SACREIL’s annual financial statements (AFS) and annual report; oversight of subsidiaries’ AFS
  • Liaison with tax advisors for SACREIL group entities and review of tax computations
  • Consolidation of SACREIL accounts into Sanlam Group accounts semi-annually
  • Preparing SAREA’s representation to SACREIL and SACREIL’s representation to Sanlam Group semi-annually
  • Preparing SACREIL annual budget, updated forecasts and reviewing in-country budgets
Arrears Management
  • Manage debtors monthly, ensure legal processes are followed when necessary and in line with policy
  • Drive improvements in debtor management and collections
Treasury Management

Strategically oversee the Group’s treasury function, ensure active liquidity management and cash flow monitoring to support the 11 SACREIL entities in the going concern. Includes facilitation and oversight:

  • Ensure all 8 SACREIL entities meet their cash needs
  • Ensure debt covenants are met, maintained and reported quarterly
  • Manage third-party and related-party loan interest and capital repayments; redirect cash flows as needed
  • Negotiate limits, covenants and repayments with lenders
  • Ensure compliance with debt agreements and implement changes as necessary
Tax management and compliance
  • Liaise with tax advisors for the 11 SACREIL group entities; review tax computations
  • Oversee tax audits and return submissions for all SACREL entities and SAFA Trust
  • Liaison with Sanlam Group tax division and respond to queries/reviews of the portfolio (CFCs, submissions, etc.)
Management of SAFA Trust

SAFA Trust is a dormant trust held by Sanlam Alternative Investments.

  • Prepare the financial statements for review and approval by the directors
  • Liaise with Group Tax and ITL for submission of tax returns
  • Coordinate with the Company Secretarial team at ITL for unwinding of SAFA Trust
Qualification and Experience
