Financial Accountant

About our client: Our client is a dynamic, proudly South African bunker-trading and fuel supply company, operating out of Cape Town, South Africa. Their customers enjoy industry-leading customer service and competitive pricing on marine and inland fuel and lubricant products, both domestically in Southern Africa and beyond.

Position Overview: They are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Financial Accountant to manage their company’s reporting and compliance functions. The role involves preparing accurate financial statements, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and providing insights that support effective decision-making. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, examine, and analyse financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards IFRS, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Reconcile accounts, monitor general ledger entries, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed asset accounting processes.
  • Assisting with Treasury functions, foreign exposures to mimimise forex risk.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure timely submission of tax filings and regulatory reports.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to management for strategic decision-making.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, , or related field
  • Proven experience as a Financial Accountant with 7 years or more
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics BC 365, Sage Accounting, or similar) and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
