Overview
To effectively and efficiently manage and supervise all aspects of the Eye Clinic. This clinic provides eye care services on-board the Phelophepa to rural communities in South Africa.
Responsibilities
- Efficient management of the Eye Clinic within relevant HPCSA and Transnet Policies and guidelines.
- Effective, objective and enthusiastic orientation of student groups to ensure maximum efficiency in daily operations.
- Continuous observation of student skills / development areas as opposed to patient numbers / requirements.
- Constant supervision, development and interaction with students to ensure the required value as per Training Institution requirement is added.
- Liaise with clinic staff re the control of equipment checkout, instrument functioning and laboratory machines’ functioning so as to monitor use and maintenance thereof.
- Liaise with Resident Optometrist re the arrangements for the school screening process and management of referrals for that week.
- Liaise with local Optometrist / Hospital to prepare for the referrals of ocular pathology cases for further medical management.
- Analytical feedback reports on eye clinic activities to Transnet Foundation through the Phelophepa manager.
- Provide student assessment reports to relevant Training Institutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Optometry Degree
- Post graduate qualification will be an added advantage
- Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience
- Registration with the HPCSA
- Code 08 driver’s license
