Engineering Foreman (Projects & Estate) – Coal Mining Middelburg Area
Our client, a coal mining company outside of Middelburg, is seeking to employ an experienced Engineering Foreman for Projects and Site. Ideally the successful candidate will already reside in the area and will not have to relocate.
Position title: Engineering Foreman (Projects & Estate)
Responsibilities
- Manage maintenance and operations of equipment
- Create and distribute work orders and close them after completion
- Coordinate orders and maintenance activities promptly to ensure resources are available when required
- Coordinate activities during execution and inspect work done
- Deliver projects within budget and specified time frames
- Adhere to disciplinary and behavioural rules and procedures
- Ensure adherence to quality standards delivering work that meets operational expectations
- Maintain high standards of work performance following prescribed methods to minimise downtime
- Demonstrate and promote safety principles in the estate
- Uphold compliance with safety, health and environmental standards
- Proactively identify and report unsafe situations and participate in safety meetings
- Take personal responsibility for safety and encourage a culture of safety among peers
- Gather accurate information, verify its integrity and capture data
- Organise and file documents according to established procedures
- Lead team contributions towards goals and innovation
- Actively engage in change initiatives and provide constructive feedback to overcome resistance
- Spearhead improvement initiatives and participate in section planning processes
- Operate and maintain equipment as per design and OEM guidelines
- Aim to reduce downtime
- Improve Overall Equipment Availability
- Maintain Safety Compliance Score
- Drive project success with efficient execution of plans within established standards
- Manage mine projects with a focus on engineering excellence
- Monitor costs within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies and reduce waste
- Provide input to the estate budget per annum (power and water usage, estate maintenance including buildings, ablutions, water lines, power lines, laundry, rail siding, fences)
- Comply with cost controls to achieve the estate budget
- Report on cost usage that reflects delivery of work within agreed parameters
- Identify repeat failures that contribute to wastage
- Budget vs Actual and cost efficiencies
- Build working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance delivery
- Build professional long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Investigate stakeholder needs to enable delivery of a quality service
- Ensure customer service solutions are aligned to the operational business plan
- Ensure timely resolution of queries and complaints and take ownership of issues
- Coordinate, monitor and supervise the performance of direct reports
- Ensure performance contracts are implemented and performance reviews conducted
- Ensure leave and travel requests are submitted and approved timeously
- Ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures and standards
- Resolve conflicts and respond to complaints or concerns
- Support skills development and transfer initiatives
- Ensure all team members are competent to deliver outputs of their jobs within a specified time after appointment
- Recommend and co-create toolkits and training materials to build a steady skills pipeline
- Identify and participate in planned activities for personal and team development
- Promote knowledge transfer amongst peers
- Manage learner programme to align with company requirements
- Demonstrate teamwork and inclusivity
- Adhere to and improve reporting processes for the area of responsibility
- Ensure complete, timely and accurate reporting with appropriate escalation for decision-making
- Analyse information and reports to identify trends, discrepancies and inconsistencies for decision-making
- Provide feedback and progress reporting to stakeholders
- Adhere to statutory standards, policies and procedures and take remedial action where necessary
- Monitor, analyse and audit key business processes and metrics
Minimum Qualification
Grade 12 or relevant NQF 4
Mechanical or Electrical Trade Test certificate
Experience Required
Years: Minimum 3 years supervisory experience as a Senior Foreman or General Engineering Supervisor
