Job description

Qualifications / Experience: N6 National Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Qualified Electrician - Red Seal. Wireman's Licence.

  • 3 Phase Wireman; PLC installation and programming an advantage; Design and programming of PLCs and touch screen control systems.
  • Switchboard / chassis design and testing.
  • Electrical design and drafting on CAD, Revit, and SketchUp; drafting and updating wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to work extra hours when requested to complete projects.
  • Own transport required.
Main Job Functions:
  1. Managing production staff.
  2. Costing new designs, establishing BOM, process data, and layouts for manufacturing.
  3. Assessing raw material prices from suppliers and subcontractors.
  4. Approving orders for bulk materials based on stock levels and forecasts.
  5. Controlling quality, costs, and final product inspection and approval.
  6. Training and qualifying personnel; identifying training needs.
  7. Improving personnel skills and self-discipline per company policies.
  8. Enhancing communication and coordination within the company.
  9. Ensuring staff work towards fixed targets.
  10. Handling disciplinary inquiries and hearings.
  11. Motivating personnel.
Human Resources & Industrial Relations:
  1. Recruiting, terminating, and planning staff requirements.
  2. Handling union-related issues.
  3. Maintaining personnel records.
  4. Ensuring a safe workplace; chairing safety meetings; investigating injuries and incidents.
Safety:
  1. Ensuring staff use safety equipment and maintain it.
  2. Investigating injuries and doing preventative actions.
  3. Reporting hazards; attending safety meetings; conducting safety inspections.
Plant Electrical Maintenance:
  1. Inspecting and repairing electrical tools and machinery.
  2. Ensuring compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  3. Addressing safety non-conformances and process optimization for safety.
Stock Taking & Housekeeping:
  1. Daily stock checks of consumables and wires.
  2. Assisting with monthly stock takes.
  3. Maintaining clean work stations and organizing material flow to prevent bottlenecks.
