Job summary

A global engineering company seeks an experienced Electrical Inspector in Cape Town, South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years in the Energy sector. Responsibilities include witnessing inspections, maintaining quality records, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional languages is a plus. Preferred safety certifications for offshore projects will be advantageous. This role is contractual and offers an opportunity to work on significant projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an equivalent role in the Energy sector.
  • Certificates related to safety (e.g., BOSIET) for offshore projects (preferable).

Responsibilities

  • Witnessing electrical tests, controls and inspections.
  • Executing inspections on materials, equipment, and construction activities on site.
  • Issuing Quality Records and Non-Conformance Reports as necessary.
  • Checking cable laying and cable identification.
  • Performing all relevant loop checks.
  • Updating as-built drawings.
  • Performing punch-listing operations.
  • Inspecting power transformers, switchboards, and lighting systems.

Skills

Good knowledge of foreign languages: English, preferable French and Spanish

Professional Skills & Certifications
  • Good knowledge (spoken and written) of foreign languages: English mandatory; preferable French, Spanish, and technical dictionary knowledge will be a plus.
  • Good knowledge of PC usage, including software and applications (e.g., Windows, Office).
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of International Quality Standards and applicable design and construction norms and standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of major standards applied to Oil & Gas projects (e.g., EEMUA, API, ISO EN, ASME, AWS, ATEX, Customer Standards, etc.).
  • (Preferable) Certificates related to safety (e.g., BOSIET) for offshore projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction standards, codes of practice and regulations/legislation relating to electrical and instrumentation work.
  • Knowledge of safety legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure.
Work Experience – Duties and Responsibilities

The QC Electrical Inspector is responsible for:

  • Witnessing the electrical tests, controls and inspections carried out.
  • Executing the specific inspections on materials, equipment and construction/installation activities on site.
  • Issuing the relevant Quality Records and, when necessary, writing and sending Non-Conformances Reports to the QC Supervisor/Coordinator.
  • Checking cable laying and cable identification.
  • Performing all relevant loop checks.
  • Updating as-built drawings.
  • Performing punch-listing operations.
  • Inspecting power transformers, switchboards, accumulator batteries, sockets/outlets, and lighting systems.
  • Performing visual inspections, dimensional tests, and checking rating and material for connections.
