Behaviour Mentor / Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant – Bexley

Contract: Permanent, Full Time, Term Time Only

Start Date: January 2026

Salary: From £25,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Location: Bexley, South‑East London

We are seeking an experienced Behaviour Mentor / Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team on a permanent, full‑time, term‑time only basis starting January 2026. This role is ideal for a confident, reliable and resilient professional with strong behaviour management skills and experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Role Overview

As a key member of our inclusion team, you will:

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils to regulate their behaviour, build resilience and engage fully in learning.
  • Implement behaviour plans and de‑escalation strategies.
  • Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff.
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Encourage independence, emotional development and social skills.
Person Specification

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have proven experience in UK schools, ideally supporting SEMH pupils.
  • Have strong and consistent behaviour management skills.
  • Are calm, firm, and empathetic when working with challenging behaviours.
  • Are reliable, professional and committed to making a positive difference.
  • Can build strong, supportive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS (or are willing to obtain one).
