Job summary
A leading educational organization in Singapore is seeking a laboratory technician to prepare and manage science materials and ensure safety compliance in a school environment. The ideal candidate will possess at least GCE 'O' Level qualifications or NITEC in a related field, with a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and chemical handling. Responsibilities include maintaining lab cleanliness, assisting in experiments, and managing inventory. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply for this role.

Job description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Laboratory Preparation and Setup
- Prepare materials, apparatus, and specimens for science lessons.
- Set up and test experimental apparatus before lessons to ensure functionality and safety.
- Assist teachers in conducting practical lessons, demonstrations, and science experiments.
- Dismantle and clean up after experiments, ensuring all equipment is properly stored.
- Laboratory Maintenance and Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of laboratories, preparation rooms, and storage areas.
- Clean and wash laboratory apparatus, glassware, and equipment after use.
- Ensure that equipment and facilities are well-maintained and in working condition.
- Assist in regular pest control, ventilation, and general upkeep of laboratory areas.
- Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
- Keep Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals and ensure proper labelling of bottles and containers.
- Assist in the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and biological waste.
- Inventory and Resource Management
- Maintain inventory of science apparatus, chemicals, and consumables.
- Conduct stock-taking and update inventory records regularly.
- Prepare and propose procurement of science materials and equipment to HOD Science/LH Science.
- Receive and verify delivery of items ordered and ensure proper storage.
- Support for Green Environment Initiatives
- Maintain living stocks such as plants and other living specimens used in science lessons.
- Maintain and monitor the operations of hydroponic system, support the upkeep of garden green spaces through working closely with engaged landscaping company.
- Collect plant specimens from the garden or hydroponic system for science experiments.
- Assist teachers in preparing materials for teaching and learning activities.
- Coordinate with garden vendors for specimen collection and garden maintenance.
- Administrative & Office Support
- Assist with school operations as assigned.
- Provide support for events, scheduling, and resource coordination when needed.
- Help maintain records and documentation related to school processes.
- Perform other duties as delegated by school management.
Skills and Qualifications
- Academic Qualifications – Minimum: GCE ‘O’ Level with passes in Science subjects, or NITEC/Higher NITEC in a science-related field.
- Basic understanding of laboratory procedures, measurement, and scientific apparatus.
- Competent in handling chemicals, reagents, and simple experimental setups.
- Comfortable with the use of technology and digital tools (e.g., Microsoft 365, basic data entry) for administrative tasks and stock management. Able to maintain inventory and laboratory records accurately.
Experience
- Prior experience in a school laboratory or administrative role is an advantage, but fresh graduates are welcome.
Additional Requirements
- Physically fit to handle laboratory duties.
- Lifting and moving laboratory equipment and materials within safe weight limits.
- Climbing up and down ladders or steps to access storage areas.
- Setting up and clearing workstations for practical lessons.
- Able to demonstrate good housekeeping and cleaning practices.
