Job description
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy for the business: set targets, define market segments (architectural, industrial, automotive OEM/aftermarket, powder coatings, UV/curing, etc.), identify new growth opportunities.
  • Manage and grow relationships with existing customers and drive new business development with target customers.
  • Lead and mentor the sales team (inside sales, field sales, business development) – define KPIs, provide coaching, performance review and incentivise achievement.
  • Collaborate with technical service/R&D and marketing teams to provide value-added solutions: support customer trials, presentations, product specification, problem-solving and application development.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, regulatory changes (VOC, REACH, green coatings, sustainability) and provide input into product portfolio development and pricing strategies.
  • Prepare sales forecasts, budgets and reports; review performance against targets and propose corrective actions where necessary.
  • Work with supply chain/logistics and operations to ensure product availability, timely delivery and coordinate internal processes to meet customer expectations.
  • Drive margin improvement and profitability: optimisation of product mix, negotiation of commercial terms, cost-effective selling.
  • Represent the company at industry forums, trade shows and customer events and build brand awareness of Behn Meyer’s coatings solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies (quality, safety, ethics) and promote the company’s values.
Requirements
  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Coatings Technology, or related field. A Master’s degree/ PhD is plus.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of sales/business development experience in the coatings, construction, building materials or speciality chemicals industry, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
  • Strong track record of selling coatings/paints/additives or surface-treatment solutions; understanding of coatings and construction formulation, application methods, end-user requirements and value propositions.
  • Excellent network of contacts within the coatings and construction industry (manufacturers, system houses, applicators, authorities) in Malaysia and ideally in the broader Southeast Asia region.
  • Proven ability to develop sales strategies, meet/exceed sales targets, manage key accounts, and lead a sales team.
  • Required skill(s): interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills; business acumen and commercial mindset; strong analytical skills; self-driven and proactive
  • Required language(s): English and Malay, proficiency in other languages is an added advantage
  • Candidates must possess a valid driving license and be willing to travel.
