A leading construction firm in Malaysia is seeking an experienced professional to manage operational procurement and supplier engagement across diverse projects. This role involves strategic sourcing, high-level negotiations, and mentorship of procurement team members. The ideal candidate will possess a relevant degree and have 6-8 years of experience in the construction industry. Proficiency in Mandarin is preferred, as communication with suppliers from China is essential.
Together with an existing team of experienced professionals, manage operational procurement and material supply across various projects and construction categories (bulk materials, preliminaries and consumables, architectural materials).
Drive strategic sourcing initiatives to optimise cost, quality, and supplier performance.
Conduct high-level negotiations with suppliers.
Support tender evaluations, supplier qualification, and procurement planning.
Assist to coordinate the setup of the company’s trading arm, including strategy development, process design, and operational execution.
Assist to establish procurement, sales and reporting frameworks to ensure the trading arm operates effectively and profitably.
Assist to prepare procurement and performance reports for management.
Conduct cost analysis, spend analysis and risk assessments specific to construction projects.
Support financial modelling for major procurement and trading decisions.
Mentor and develop procurement team members.
Collaborate with various departments in the company such as project, planning, QA/QC, contracts and finance teams to align procurement, trading and contractual objectives.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Construction Management, Law, Quantity Surveying or Supply Chain Management.
Proven negotiation, stakeholder management and supplier relationship skills.
Strong understanding of Malaysian construction law, contract administration and regulatory frameworks is an advantage but not essential.
Experience in contract administration and finance is beneficial but not essential.
Minimum 6‑8 years of experience within the construction industry and property development industry.
Candidates who demonstrate strong leadership qualities and the ability to contribute fresh, innovative ideas are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidate must be able to travel overseas to meet with vendor and supplier.
Mandarin‑speaking candidates are preferred, as the role requires close communication with China suppliers.
