The GL Accountant plays a key role in supporting school and organisational leadership through timely, accurate, and insightful management reporting. This role focuses on analysing financial performance, enrolment-driven revenue trends, cost efficiency, and cash flow to enable informed decision-making, while ensuring statutory compliance is properly coordinated.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts for centres, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Deliver clear management reports with commentary on enrolment impact, fee income, staffing costs, and operating expenses.
- Analyse budget vs actual performance and highlight risks, trends, and improvement.
- Provide financial insights to principals, centre leaders, and senior management to support.
- Develop and maintain financial dashboards and KPI reporting (e.g. enrolment, cost per student, margin by centre).
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with school leaders and department heads.
- Prepare rolling forecasts based on enrolment projections and operational plans (programmes).
- Support strategic planning with medium-term financial projections.
- Partner with operations & procurement teams to improve cost control and resource allocation.
- Review staffing, programme, and facility costs to ensure financial sustainability.
- Support new centre/school initiatives, expansions, or improvement projects with financial analysis.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure data integrity.
- Coordinate statutory reporting, audits, and tax submissions with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
- Maintain strong internal controls and governance across schools/centres.
- Supervise and develop finance team members.
- Improve reporting processes, templates, and systems for efficiency and consistency.
- Promote financial literacy among school leaders through clear explanations and guidance.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and/or a professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA).
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, with a substantial portion in a senior GL.
- Exposure to MNCs or a Top-tier/Big 4 Audit Firm is essential, demonstrating experience with complex group structures and high reporting standards.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS/MFRS and a proven track record of applying these standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation) and hands-on experience with major ERP systems.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring, supervising, or formally managing staff.
- Experience within the ECCE, education, or multi-site retail/service sectors.
- Direct hands-on experience with NetSuite or similar cloud-based ERP systems.
- Experience with financial consolidation for multiple entities.
