Head of Maths and IT

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Head of Maths and IT to lead our successful team from August 2026. The role requires an inspiring mathematician and team player who will lead the team to continued excellence and support students and staff to reach their potential.

We are seeking a professional who:

• Has significant experience of teaching maths/further maths up to A level or similar, and ideally has some knowledge of, or interest in, IT and Computer Science.
• Has a growth mindset towards all aspects of school life, including the willingness to contribute to wider extracurricular activities within the school community.
• Has high expectations of students whilst inspiring challenge and curiosity, including supporting the needs of EAL students.
• Promotes international values within the classroom, including cross‑curricular links to other subjects.

The faculty leadership team comprises the Curriculum Leader, the Deputy Curriculum Leader and the Assistant Curriculum Leader. Between them they share responsibility for all aspects of the faculty from subject development and assessment to curriculum mapping, and from internationalism to community links.

Since the foundation of the school in 2011, POWIIS has built a significant academic reputation despite not selecting by ability. Our student body is approximately half Malaysian, with international students from over 20 countries. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales, with students sitting IGCSEs and AS/A2 examinations.

POWIIS is a boarding school and consequently all teachers are expected to contribute to the wider aspects of boarding school life including occasional evening/weekend involvement on a rota basis. Experience of boarding education and independent schools is an advantage, but by no means essential. For a candidate with experience of, or interest in, a greater involvement in boarding, a boarding tutor position may be available, and an additional allowance is paid for this.

Malaysian work permits are usually granted for two or three years. Initial contracts are fixed term for 3 years, but continuity is important for the school; it is hoped that appointments will be seen as longer term, with renewal of contracts very common. Our teaching staff are predominantly British, with a significant number of colleagues from around the world and a small number of high‑quality Malaysian teachers. Our facilities and resources are excellent and there is low staff turnover; a feature of the school widely acknowledged and highly valued by our parents.
