Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware, and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments, and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Involves the overall planning, implementation, and optimization of all activities and support required for the buying and delivery of products and services, from material acquisition through delivery. Primary areas include procurement and contracting, supply management, inventory management, logistics operations, supplier diversity, transportation, and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represents Global Supply Management (GSM) within the plant/business, engaging Corporate functions, Shared Services, and Corporate GSM functions as necessary to ensure global Buying Policy enforcement and Customs Compliance adherence. Establishes linkage between GSM Strategy, Business Strategy, and Plant Strategy through shared objectives.
  • Ensures Contribution Metrics are updated and linked with site/business cost reduction initiatives by actively participating in cross-functional teams focused on process improvement, cost reduction, and supply chain enhancements. Leverages site spend with business and corporate spend.
  • Creates and maintains contractual documents such as Supply Agreements, Pricing Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, and Certificates of Insurance.
  • Maintains effective supplier relationships through audits, visits, and evaluations to review capabilities and capacities.
  • Identifies new or alternative sources as needed.
  • Develops Risk Mitigation plans where necessary.
  • Conducts sourcing activities including RFQ’s/RFI’s, analysis, sourcing strategy/recommendations, contract negotiations, and contract maintenance.
  • Engages early with suppliers in new product development, process design, IP opportunities, and technical advantages.
  • Locates and selects potential sources of materials or services, focusing on site-specific needs excluding global commodities.
  • Collaborates with Strategic Sourcing to understand the supply base and market dynamics, supporting the execution of sourcing strategies.
  • Works with planning or production control to effectively manage material scheduling and planning.
  • Coordinates with Finance on cost reduction, price forecasting, and standard setting.
  • Acts as the main contact between Commodity and site for implementing changes.
  • Drives site implementation and advocacy of centralized RTP process.
  • Participates actively in cross-functional teams focused on process improvement, cost reduction, and supply chain issue resolution, as well as new product development.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in manufacturing operations, planning, quality, engineering, or supply chain.
  • Experience as a plant or corporate buyer.
  • Experience with GSM processes and systems.
  • Experience as a supervisor.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment or on cross-functional teams.
  • Technical aptitude/capability.
  • Experience in frontline or mainstream business roles.
  • Willingness to be mobile globally.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience across multiple businesses, divisions, and technologies.
  • Experience in staff or project roles.
  • Experience with global manufacturing and business through work or projects.
  • Certifications such as C.P.M., CPSM, APICS, or related Supply Chain certifications.
