GPTech is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support our prospective contract with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO). The position will provide OBO’s Cape Town Utility Optimization Project with a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance and management and technical oversight. An Electrical Engineering degree is required. This position will be located in Cape Town, South Africa.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical inspections of electrical work, monitor the contractor\'s quality control program, and review project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Support and assist OBO/Cape Town in ensuring the completion of the project in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Specific experience with high- and low-voltage equipment, as well as telephone and fire alarm systems desired.
  • Read design/construction drawings and understand design narratives and calculations.
  • Review engineering shop drawings and determine if the contractor has complied with the final design parameters.
  • Observe onsite construction and determine if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly.
  • Perform quality assurance tasks, including ensuring contractor work is inspected and corrective actions are taken; ensure materials meet contract requirements; review contractor submittals for compliance; and resolve conflicts.
  • Monitor the construction contractor’s quality assurance and safety program; observe onsite construction and ensure proper installation and execution.
  • Monitor construction progress with respect to project schedule and submit weekly progress reports with recommendations based on technical review of project documents and field inspections.
  • Interpret drawings and understand the principals of the discipline and how it fits with other disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Electrical engineering degree from an accredited university in the United States with a civil background
  • Experience with photovoltaic and energy storage systems, optimization of solar energy, and battery energy storage systems
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience working on construction projects
  • A Professional Engineering license is acceptable in lieu of a degree
  • Active Secret clearance before deployment
  • Specific experience with high- and low-voltage equipment, as well as telephone and fire alarm systems desired
  • Overseas experience preferred
