Job description
Temporary Primary Music Teacher

Start Date: January 2026
Contract: Two Terms (January – June 2026)

About the School

We are recruiting for a highly regarded international school in Indonesia, set on an impressive 44-acre campus in the vibrant city of Jakarta. The school is a warm and inclusive community representing over 50 nationalities and educating students aged 2 to 18 years.

Located in South West Jakarta, the campus offers outstanding facilities that support academic excellence, creativity, and wellbeing, including specialist music rooms, performance spaces, and extensive co-curricular opportunities. The curriculum begins with the UK Early Years Foundation Stage, progresses through the English National Curriculum and inquiry-based learning in Primary, and continues into the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP), and Career-related Programme (CP) in Secondary. Music plays an important role in the life of the school, with strong emphasis on performance, participation, and creative expression.

The Role

Due to the continued growth of the school community, the school is seeking a Temporary Primary Music Teacher to join the faculty from January 2026 for a two-term appointment (January – June 2026).

This role is suited to an enthusiastic and skilled music educator who can deliver high-quality classroom music across the Primary Years and contribute to performances, assemblies, and wider musical activities. The successful candidate will bring strong subject knowledge, excellent classroom practice, and a genuine passion for inspiring young learners through music. There may also be opportunities to contribute to teaching across the Secondary age range, depending on experience and timetable needs.

Key Responsibilities

The Temporary Primary Music Teacher will plan and deliver engaging music lessons that develop students musical skills, understanding, and enjoyment, incorporating singing, instrumental work, composition, and listening. Lessons will be well-structured, inclusive, and aligned with the schools curriculum and learning philosophy.

The role includes preparing and leading student performances, assemblies, and musical events, and supporting productions where appropriate. The teacher will use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.

Collaboration is essential. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues within the music department and across the school, contributing positively to the wider life of the community. Effective communication with students, colleagues, and parents is expected throughout the contract period.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should hold a Bachelors degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field, along with a recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE or teaching licence. A minimum of three years experience teaching music is required, preferably in a Primary or international school setting, although candidates with five or more years experience and a strong track record of excellence are particularly encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of music pedagogy, theory, and practical performance, with experience leading student performances and musical productions. Proficiency in teaching and playing brass instruments, particularly trumpet, is essential. Experience integrating technology into music teaching, such as GarageBand or digital notation software, is highly desirable.

Excellent classroom management, communication skills, and a high level of spoken and written English are required. The school is seeking a motivated, energetic, and flexible educator who is committed to exemplary teaching and learning.

  • Annual flights
  • Comprehensive international medical insurance (excluding the U.S.)
  • Housing and cost-of-living allowance
