The Position

Reporting to the SMART Centre Team lead, this position is seeking a Data Scientist to our lead advanced analytics initiatives working with large-scale operational datasets, designing and delivering end-to-end solutions for our clients to optimise their safety and operational performance.

  • Data Engineering & Architecture: Build ETL pipelines developing scalable data for dashboards and predictive models.
  • Analytics & Modeling: Apply analytics and statistical methods to predict mining operational performance, productivity, and risk, translating complex data into business metrics
  • Visualization & Reporting: Build BI dashboards and custom web apps (Power BI, Streamlit, Folium, Kepler.gl, etc.) to communicate insights, easy-to-understand visuals for broad audience
  • Collaboration & Consulting: Work closely with consultants and client stakeholders to understand challenges and design analytics solutions
About you

This role suits someone with strong data science skills from any asset-intensive industry (manufacturing, logistics, energy, transport, etc.) who is eager to apply them in mining. In addition, we are seeking those with the following skills or attributes.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of analytics experience in asset-intensive industries (manufacturing, logistics, energy, utilities, transportation, or mining).
  • Strong technical proficiency in: SQL, Python, Geospatial, BI Tools
  • Proven ability to deliver end-to-end solutions (data pipelines → analytics → dashboards).
  • Strong communication skills to explain analytics to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written communication.
Desirable not Essential
  • Experience with mining fleet management systems (HxGN MineOperate OP Pro, Modular, Wenco, or similar).
  • Hands-on work with IoT data (sensors, GPS traces, telemetry).
  • Deployment experience with Streamlit/Docker.
  • Knowledge of operational improvement frameworks (Lean Six Sigma or similar).
