Job Summary
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to join the Barnet Enhanced Support Team. As an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holders will contribute to a comprehensive, rapid and flexible service for the most urgent and acute problems facing troubled adolescents, including significant self-harm and serious mental illness. Our service is grounded in a multi-disciplinary model aligned with the iThrive Framework, promoting holistic, needs-led care. We are committed to the ongoing development of our clinicians, offering high-quality individual and group supervision, opportunities for reflective practice, and a wide range of CPD opportunities across the Trust. We pride ourselves on being a warm, inclusive, and welcoming team, dedicated to providing flexible, creative, person-centered, and evidence-based care to children and young people with complex needs.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • To attend clinical meetings and in-service training as required.
  • To keep up to date with new techniques and research for the maintenance and promotion of good practice.
  • Record all clinical information in line with trust policies.
  • Support service development and quality improvement projects.
  • To be responsible for the planning and prioritization of own workload and activities following the direction and guidelines given by the supervising clinical psychologist.
  • To support formal and informal assessment in respect of the social communication needs of children and young people presenting with neurodevelopmental difficulties.
  • To hold a small caseload supervised by the 8a Clinical Psychologist.

Job Description

Job responsibilities: To undertake protocol based psychological assessment of clients through direct and indirect observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. The postholder will have a personal duty of care for Trust equipment and facilities. To be responsible for planning and prioritization of one's own workload and activities following the direction and guidelines given by the clinical psychologist. To be capable of working in clinical situations which require concentration, and which may involve distressing or emotionally demanding circumstances or where there is risk of verbal or physical aggression. To maintain and update client records in accordance with Trust and professional guidelines. Scoring ND screeners, preparing clients for assessment and MDT discussions. Person Specification

Essential

Qualifications/ Registrations

  • An upper second-class honors degree or higher in psychology.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

  • 3DI or ADI-R training
  • Post-qualifying training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of research design and analysis.
  • Specialist training in a subject/skill relevant to Child & Adolescent Mental Health (0-18 years)

Skills/ Abilities

  • Understanding of child development stages and psychosocial model.
  • Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships and maintain professional boundaries. Ability to apply learning in practice. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work flexibly and respectfully with others.
  • Ability to maintain and manage own workload.
  • Skills in using IT, including office applications, clinical record systems (RiO) and database/statistical applications (Excel).
  • Self-reflection and use of clinical supervision for personal and professional development.

Desirable

  • Experience of delivering teaching and training with multi-media materials; high standard of report writing; understanding of evidence-based psychological therapies; experience in service evaluation and quality improvement projects.

Experience/ Knowledge

  • Experience of signposting to families and linking to alternative services; experience in supporting mental health needs of children and young people, including with neurodevelopmental differences; knowledge of routine outcome monitoring; up-to-date evidence-based practice; knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group.

Desirable

  • Experience of paid direct care work; working with diverse communities; multidisciplinary and multiagency collaboration; enabling service user participation; experience in risk management and safeguarding.

Personal Qualities

  • Ability to work under pressure, develop strong working relationships within a team, and maintain professional boundaries; adaptable, enthusiastic, and motivated; ability to work independently and flexibly to meet client needs.
