Senior Asset Management & Pension Policy Advisor

Department - Asset Management, Funds and Pensions, Market Analysis and Policy Department

Division - Supervision, Policy and Competition Division

Salary - National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £52,400 to £68,800 and London £57,700 to £75,000 pro rata (salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

We are recruiting a Policy Adviser to join the Asset Management, Funds and Pensions, Market Analysis and Policy Department within the Supervision, Policy and Collaboration Division at the FCA.

This department shapes policy for pensions, funds and asset management—core to the FCA’s mission of ensuring sectors function well for consumers, markets and collective progress.

  • The pensions and retirement income sector holds hundreds of billions in FCA-regulated assets, playing a critical role in people’s financial futures.

  • The asset management industry, overseeing £9.9 trillion in assets, supports savings stewardship and global capital allocation across communities of all types.

The team develops strategic policy for UK asset managers and authorised funds, serving as a key source of expertise across the FCA, HM Treasury and the Bank of England. We collaborate with government bodies and The Pensions Regulator on high-impact initiatives that serve the public interest. This is a pivotal moment to contribute to reforms affecting millions of savers and to help shape the evolving regulatory landscape.

Institutional Investments Focus The team sets expectations for wholesale investment approaches, including pensions and institutional funds. It also addresses broader economic implications such as financial stability and inclusive finance, working in partnership with government, regulators and international bodies to shape global standards.

What will you be doing?

  • Develop and deliver robust and practical policy solutions by using data and evidence

  • Proactively manage and lead complex policy projects by making good judgements, prioritising effectively and managing competing tasks and deadlines

  • Identify and manage a range of internal and external stakeholders, building rapport and constructive relationships and taking a collaborative and flexible approach

  • Distil complex issues into succinct messages and present clearly and concisely to a variety of stakeholders, orally and in writing

  • Work as part of a team and support and assist others. This includes supporting team members to achieve shared goals and adjusting your approach for different situations

  • Engage in and support workstreams with the Government and other standard setting bodies and regulatory institutions such as the Bank of England

Which skills are required?

Minimum

  • Prior experience in policy-making (e.g., at a regulator, firm or other relevant organisation)

  • Experience in coordinating and delivering cross-cutting projects

  • Prior experience in stakeholder management, with the ability to build rapport and develop constructive relationships by adopting a collaborative and flexible approach

Essential

  • Outstanding organisational skills, including the ability to proactively manage complex policy projects by planning, prioritising and managing competing tasks and deadlines

  • Making good judgements and being open minded in approach

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to distil complex issues into succinct messages and present clearly and concisely to a variety of stakeholders

  • Working effectively as part of a team and supporting and assisting others. This includes supporting team members to achieve shared goals and adjusting your approach for different situations
