Job description

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, outstanding clinical fellow to join our busy Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology (EPAG) service at this exciting time for the Trust.

We are looking to appoint one candidate to commence on 1st April 2026 (maternity cover). The successful candidate will hold a 12-month post.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated consultants in acute gynaecology, clinical nurse specialists, registered nurses, healthcare assistants and a Unit administrator / receptionist, to provide specialist care to the population of North West London and neighbouring areas. The post will be based at the Chelsea & Westminster site. The post holder will contribute, after tailored training, to the provision of first-class emergency gynaecology care to our population through a one-stop clinical model complemented by high-quality gynaecological ultrasound and endoscopic surgical expertise.

The successful candidate will also support the recurrent miscarriage and 2 week wait service and will contribute to the early pregnancy/emergency gynaecology scan and assessment service at the weekends. There may be a requirement to participate in the junior registrar on call rota at the weekends. This post provides an ideal 'out-of-programme- experience' (OOPE) opportunity to launch a portfolio of specialist training in gynaecological ultrasound.

At the end of 12 months, the post-holder can expect to attain ultrasound skills equivalent to the RCOG intermediate level ultrasound in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology and showcase completed projects at national and international conferences.

This clinical role involves a timetable tailored to the specific role. This will include: acute gynaecology on-call sessions; early pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound clinics; recurrent miscarriage clinics; out-patient acute gynaecology procedures.

The successful candidate will be mainly based in the Elizabeth Suite (Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Unit) at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Site. The candidate will be expected to work 9am-5pm (variable).

The post involves provision of weekend (Saturday and Sunday) clinics in the Early Pregnancy & Acute Gynaecology Unit. The successful candidate may also take part in the regular out of hours Gynaecology and Obstetrics SPR rota.

Non-clinical duties include coordination of Emergency Gynaecology MDT meetings; clinical guideline development; training and support of junior doctors.

The appointment will be on a scale equivalent to that of an appropriate ST level and carries an annual leave entitlement of 32 days (including statutory days) (pro-rata).

The post holder will be expected to contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust's R&D framework. Projects also developed during their time in the unit will be supported by the successful candidate with a view to publication.

The post holder is expected to contribute to the Clinical Audit Programme and Quality Improvement Projects (QIP).

This post provides an ideal OOPE opportunity to begin a portfolio of specialist training in early pregnancy and gynaecological ultrasound. This skill will be complemented by the acquisition of other clinical skills needed to work in a busy early pregnancy and acute gynaecology unit.

The successful candidate, with application, can expect to attain ultrasound skills equivalent to the RCOG intermediate level ultrasound in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology and showcase completed projects at national and international conferences.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active interest in the management of all acute gynaecology patients and complement a unified multidisciplinary approach to their care.

The post holder has a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of him-/herself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

The post holder is required to observe the rules, policies, procedures, Trust values and standards of Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.

The post holder is required to observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.

The successful candidate is required to be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues.
