Job Description:

Inspire the Future of Technology at Claremont

Claremont School is seeking a committed, dynamic, and visionary Teacher of Computer Science to lead this vital subject across Key Stages 3 to 5. This role also carries the strategic responsibility of advancing the school’s digital learning and EdTech provision, reflecting Claremont’s ambition to become a leader in innovative, technology-enabled teaching and learning.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced teacher with subject leadership aspirations, or an established leader looking for a fresh challenge, to help shape both the Computer Science curriculum and the wider digital strategy of a forward-thinking independent school.

Why Claremont?

  • An Ofsted “Outstanding” school, part of the global International Schools Partnership (ISP)
  • Non-selective, inclusive, and values-driven with a strong record of academic achievement
  • A progressive culture focused on innovation, digital learning, and staff development
  • Sixth Form outcomes: 40% A–A* in 2024
  • Access to an international network of 100+ schools, offering leadership development and collaboration

About Claremont and ISP

Claremont School is a thriving, non-selective day and boarding school, offering a British curriculum to local and international students aged 2–18. Located in Bodiam, East Sussex, we serve a broad catchment area and are known for academic excellence, pastoral care, and distinctive programmes in the Performing Arts and Football Academy.

We are proud members of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), a global group of 100+ schools united by a common purpose: to put learners and learning first. ISP schools share best practice, offer international student and staff exchanges, and continually strive to improve.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Design

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate engaging, rigorous Computer Science lessons from Year 7 to Year 13
  • Teach across KS3, GCSE and A Level (with support available if new to sixth-form teaching)
  • Programming (e.g. Python, Java)
  • Computational thinking
  • Cybersecurity and digital citizenship
  • Digital productivity and media tools
  • Embed digital literacy across all key stages to ensure students are "future ready"
  • Differentiate effectively to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and EAL, as well as high attainers

Subject and Strategic Leadership

  • Set a clear vision and direction for Computer Science across the school.
  • Oversee curriculum development for the whole school. Assessment strategies and exam preparation for taught classes.
  • Use data and evidence of learning to evaluate departmental performance and raise standards
  • Manage the subject budget, ensuring effective use of resources
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to develop cross-curricular digital projects and integrated learning experiences

EdTech Leadership

  • Champion technology-enhanced learning across the curriculum as part of the school’s Digital Strategy
  • Support staff in the adoption of digital tools to enhance teaching, learning and assessment
  • Lead professional development workshops on educational technology (e.g. blended learning, AI in the classroom, interactive platforms)
  • Work in partnership with ISP’s EdTech team to adopt best practices and pilot new tools
  • Help shape the digital learning environment, ensuring it is inclusive, accessible and aligned with safeguarding and online safety policies

Whole School Contribution

  • Be a form tutor, supporting pupils’ personal development and academic progress
  • Attend and contribute to parents’ evenings, open days, and other key school events
  • Participate in CPD, school INSET days, trips, and enrichment activities
  • Support students beyond the classroom through clubs, competitions, and co-curricular initiatives (e.g. coding club, robotics challenges, e-sports, media production)

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • A passion for innovative, student-centred learning and technology in education
  • A track record of high-quality teaching, curriculum design and subject leadership (or clear leadership potential)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience or interest in delivering A Level Computer Science
  • Confidence with a range of digital tools and the vision to lead EdTech development across the school
  • A collaborative, reflective mindset and a commitment to continuous professional development

What we offer

  • Competitive salary aligned with experience and responsibility
  • Remission of school fees (in accordance with policy)
  • Free meals and refreshments during term time
  • Free parking, pension scheme, and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Access to the ISP Learning Hub with hundreds of CPD courses
  • Opportunities for international collaboration and leadership development
  • A welcoming, inclusive culture where staff are valued and innovation is embraced
