Job description

The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is a global leader in manufacturing radars, lasers, and infra-red countermeasure systems. We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Quality Team Lead to join our dynamic team and play a key role in delivering excellence in quality management across our programmes.

What You'll Do as the Quality Team Lead:

As a Quality Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality assurance activities throughout the lifecycle of multiple high-profile projects. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of outstanding quality and compliance while managing programme risks, threats, and opportunities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Risk, Threat & Opportunity Management: Proactively identify and manage programme and project risks, threats, and opportunities, ensuring that they are addressed in line with the Programme Assurance Plans (PAP).
  • Assurance Leadership: Lead and inspire Assurance Teams to achieve Programme and Integrated Project Team (IPT) objectives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement across all programme phases.
  • Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to improve the assurance function, quality systems, and product quality across all stages of the Programme, Product, and Project Lifecycle.
  • Coaching & Development: Mentor and coach team members to promote quality excellence within the programme and develop their skills.
  • Interpersonal Leadership: Use your excellent interpersonal skills to influence positive change at both the individual and team levels.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the Quality function in high-level meetings with Programme Customers and Suppliers, ensuring alignment with quality standards.
  • Milestone Achievement: Ensure that project assurance milestones are met throughout the Programme, Product, and Project lifecycle.
  • Reporting: Deliver comprehensive reports and data to relevant stakeholders, including Programme and Project teams.
  • Cost Reduction: Drive down Sector Non-Conformance costs by implementing a root cause and corrective action approach, reducing cost implications on the programmes and projects.

What We Need from You:

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Ideally, a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field. Experience in Defence Electronics or a similarly complex industry is highly desirable.
  • Quality Governance: In-depth knowledge of governance frameworks and quality standards such as AS9100, ISO9001, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Quality Tools Expertise: Experience in applying key quality tools including Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), Pattern Fault Lifecycle, Process Mapping, Verification, and First Article Inspection.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong logical thinking and the ability to convert complex data into actionable insights that align with business objectives.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions and communicate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Customer & Supplier Relations: Demonstrated experience in engaging with customers and suppliers, ensuring alignment with quality expectations and objectives.
  • Team Development: A track record of mentoring, coaching, and developing teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and quality excellence.
