Job Advert: Practice Manager (Part-Time 30 hours over 4 days)

We are a highly motivated GP practice, proud to be an active member of the Beverley Primary Care Network (PCN). We work closely with fellow practices across Beverley to deliver high-quality, responsive healthcare to our local community.
We are seeking a dynamic Practice Manager to take a leadership role in the overall management of our practice. This pivotal position will have full oversight and strategic responsibility for all business and operational functions.
The successful candidate will play a vital part in maintaining a safe, responsive, and trusted clinical service for our patients, while also ensuring the practice remains profitable, sustainable, and a rewarding place to work for our dedicated staff team.
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills are key. Remaining calm in pressured situations and being approachable to all staff is an essential characteristic, as are a track record of managing teams. Experience of public facing work and line management are essential.
You will work closely with the 2 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, an ANP and paramedic. Our nursing team includes 3 practice nurses, 2 advanced healthcare assistants and a GP assistant. Our administration team consists of a deputy manager, administration supervisor, 7 admin staff and 2 apprentices. The PCN provides: mental health nurse, a social prescriber and an MSK practitioner.
Main duties of the job
Strategic and day to day leadership of the practice's business and operational functions.
Oversight of all aspects of HR, including recruitment, staff development, and performance management.
Responsibility for financial management, budgeting, and maximising profitability.
Leading on compliance, governance, and quality improvement processes.
Oversight of health & safety, data protection, and regulatory obligations (e.g., CQC).
Supporting digital innovation and leading digital transformation initiatives in line with NHS priorities.
Collaborating with PCN colleagues, ICB representatives, community services, and partner organisations.
Actively contributing to service development, workforce planning, and sustainability.
Working closely and cooperatively with GP partners, clinicians, administrative staff, and patients.

Job Summary
The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice Manager. The Practice Manager is responsible for:
Business Management
- Contract performance monitoring, review, and sign-up
- Keeping abreast of new business changes and opportunities and producing workable solutions to present to the GP Partners
- Leading on business development, systems, and project management
- Developing business protocols and procedures, reviewing, and updating as required
- Managing the procurement of practice equipment, supplies, and services within target budgets
- Maintaining full and comprehensive insurance cover for the building and contents, including public and employers liability
- Attending business meetings and representing the GP practice at external meetings where appropriate, including PCN meetings
- Leading the online presence of the practice
- Planning, scheduling, and chairing meetings, ensuring agendas are prepared, minutes are taken, and actions are followed up
- Leading all matters related to the management and maintenance of the practice premises
- Leading health and safety matters and conducting annual risk assessments
- Ensuring fire safety standards and training are maintained in line with legislation
- Ensuring the building is safe and secure at all times
Finance
- Exploring and delivering opportunities to improve profitability through maximizing income and managing overhead expenditure
- Managing contracts for services such as utilities, maintenance, gardening, window cleaning, etc., ensuring value for money
- Maintaining effective liaison with finance colleagues
Contract Delivery, Performance, and Quality
- Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives; coordinating all projects within the practice
- Interpreting and leading on implementation of national, local, and practice quality standards
- Overseeing the development and management of patient services
- Leading on all matters related to the demand and capacity of services and appointments, working with GP Partners and the clinical team to overcome challenges and find solutions
- Ensuring clinicians are registered with the appropriate professional bodies, revalidation is undertaken, and DBS and liability insurance are in place
- Leading on all matters related to CQC registration and compliance
- Ensuring the team achieves QoF targets
- Leading with partners on Equality & Diversity
- Leading all Health and Safety matters related to the practice
- Leading IT matters, including overseeing confidentiality and GDPR adherence
- Responding appropriately to Freedom of Information requests
- Implementing the Practice Complaints and Significant Events Procedures

Human Resources
- Leading all HR matters in line with NHS standards, including performance and disciplinary issues
- Being the line manager for the administrative team and non-clinical staff in the nursing and GP team
- Overseeing staff recruitment, retention, induction, and ongoing training
- Leading performance management for staff
- Developing staff skill-mix, monitoring deployment, and setting role boundaries
- Implementing staff appraisal processes
- Ensuring all staff have up-to-date DBS checks and are competent and safe to work
- Maintaining and developing employment policies and procedures in compliance with employment legislation

Person Specification
Qualifications
- English and Maths grade C or above
- Postgraduate qualification in Finance, HR, Business, or Primary Care Management or similar
