Band 7 Occupational Therapist - Private Care

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Occupational therapist to lead and develop Occupational therapy service for Private Care, adult in-patients at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for the development of the Occupational therapy service for Private Care while managing a diverse clinical caseload.

You will be part responsible for patient flow, staff development, and service and process improvements, as well as managing complex clinical cases and a diverse caseload across all specialities within in-patient care, with support from your clinical lead as indicated. Collaboration within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and with our community settings and stakeholders is essential to enhance care pathways and implement changes that directly benefit our patients. In addition, in the adbsence of your clinical lead you will be expected to oversee the day to day running of therapy team for Private Patients.

You will be expected to have knowledge and experience of working within Private Care, as well as exposure to working alongside private insurance companies, private patients, and international sponsors. It is vital to have knowledge of the London private care market and experience in this industry. In addition, this role will require knowledge and understanding of NHS settings, as this role remains part of an NHS trust.

Main duties of the job

To be the Lead Occupational therapist and expert clinician for the adult Private patient wing.

To be responsible for the day to day operational management of adult Private patients for Occupational Therapy services.

To be in charge of the therapy department for Private patients in the absence of the Clinical Lead (B8a).

To work in collaboration with the Physiotherapy, nursing and medical colleagues. This post holder is an integral member of a highly skills multidisciplinary team for the adult private patient wing.

Requires highly skilled time management and priority skills due to frequent interruptions of job tasks during the working day and balancing of clinical and operational duties, including service development.

To have knowledge of complex discharge planning within the country and aboard as per NHS pathways and Private Patients pathways.

To utilise expert clinical reasoning and specialist skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in your dedicated clinical area and to provide specialist support and advice to other therapy staff whilst maintaining a caseload as an autonomous practitioner which includes highly complex patients.

To lead on the development and implementation of high quality, multi-professional education and training programmes within the trust and for private patients.

To support staff with service development in order to ensure provision of a high quality, patient-centred and clinically effective service.

Within this leadership role you must ensure the highest standards of clinical governance, evidence-based practice, and quality assurance for inpatient therapy services is provided to Private Patients, with a focus on continuous improvement and benchmarking against Londons leading Private Healthcare providers.

Person Specification
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Msc, BSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD and relevant post graduate courses
  • BOAT/RCOT membership
  • Leadership and/or management training
EXPERIENCE
  • Evidence of experience working as an autonomous practitioner at Band 6 level in an acute physical hospital setting managing patients with orthopaedics, general medical, neurology, rehabilitation and/or general surgery conditions in the UK or equivalent system
  • Evidence of active participation in and delivery in-service training programmes
  • Evidence of appraisal, clinical and professional supervision and teaching of qualified therapy staff, therapy assistants, students and other members of the MDT
  • Experience of working in the NHS in a specialist Older Adults service
  • Experience of taking on leadership responsibilities within a healthcare setting
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE - SPECIAL
  • Advanced clinical reasoning in the management of patient care
  • An evidence based approach to the therapeutic management of patients with medical conditions / frailty
  • Ability to work autonomously and monitor workload of team
  • Evidence of participation in research or audit
