Our College provides a unique and highly personalised method of learning, creating an environment in which to nurture, educate and encourage creative individuals. Our class sizes are small, and this allows an approach that embraces the art school tradition to learning. As we move onto our next phase of our strategic plan, we have had a number of high‑profile PR actioners join us to support us in defining our future development.

Over the last 30 years our portfolio has diversified across subject areas and levels from Masters to Foundation. We are OFS registered and have established links with leading institutions, including University of the Arts, London Awarding Body and Trinity College London.

We have a unique relationship with Hearst Magazine, publishers of ELLE, ELLE Decoration, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire and Cosmopolitan who support scholarships, internships and guided work placements.

We are looking for highly motivated creative practitioners/lecturers with their own industry/creative relationships who understand the needs future of the creative industries and are excited to work with our students to develop their understanding of areas of creative practice.

Overview of the Job

To teach future facing Fashion Design to students in BA Fashion and BA Fashion Branding Creative Communication (FBCC). To develop, deliver, and support academic programmes in line with agreed standards and policies. To be the main lecturer responsible for BA Year 1 students.

Responsibilities
  • To teach CF230 Design Innovation and other modules within the College, as required.
  • To plan, prepare and teach dynamic and engaging lessons for the classroom which enthuse and inspire students, promote enjoyment of learning and deliver key skills and attributes for industry.
  • To effectively use a variety of learning styles, having regard to the individual learning needs of students.
  • To select and sequence appropriate materials, resources, approaches, and technologies according to the course type and learners.
  • To assess, track and provide relevant and timely feedback on achievement, progress and developmental needs to students, academic and other managers/colleagues, including student records.
  • Maintain effective records of teaching, grades and feedback. Ensure accurate attendance records are kept for every lesson using the College electronic systems.
  • To carry out assessments as appropriate.
  • To complete associated and administrative tasks to deadlines, as directed.
  • To induct students appropriately, to provide academic advice, counselling, educational guidance, and periodic tutorial support to students, including individual learning plans as directed.
  • To supervise students attendance and behaviour and follow up as appropriate, in accordance with the College Behaviour and Attendance policies.
  • To develop materials and resources, implement, support and/or lead in the production and improvement as appropriate, and undertake other academic project work as directed.
  • To ensure lessons are in line with objectives as set by the Course Leader, and that these are effectively shared with all students. To give necessary feedback on materials, courses, and lessons to academic and other managers/colleagues as required.
  • To actively contribute towards the optimal utilisation of learning environments, tools and platforms.
  • To attend academic, departmental and College meetings when required, and attend/deliver INSET sessions as directed.
  • To supervise, register and accompany students on external excursions, as appropriate, ensuring their safety and welfare at all times.
  • To adhere to the standards and procedures detailed in the CSVPA Staff Handbook.
  • To appropriately deal with student issues/emergencies as and when they arise.
  • To be aware of your responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for/come into contact with during your employment, and be fully aware of the College Child Protection Policy.
  • To participate in Performance Management (PM) scheme in line with CSVPA policies and procedures.
  • To adhere to all statutory regulations and to CGS policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will be expert on the varied design and technical approaches, and the history and evolution of Fashion.
  • They should be a recognised Fashion practitioner with relevant all‑round knowledge and experience in the areas of design ideation, branding, forecasting, PR, surface manipulations, decoration and embellishment (including print, weave, knit), technical skills, production methods and garment construction experience in industry and/or academia.
  • Current understanding and experience working with trends, tools, technologies and their application within industry is essential.
  • Contemporary industry experience & relevant fashion background.
  • Awareness of current fashion systems, technologies & ideologies.
  • Broad knowledge of varying market levels and design adjacencies.
  • Broad skillset in terms of fashion process and technical awareness.
  • Academic experience (not essential but preferred).
  • Strong evidence of core research skills and in‑depth knowledge of the design process from sketchbook to folio.
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills.
  • Highly organised and able to take responsibility for briefs / module management on Canvas / assessment under the role.
  • High level of cultural engagement.
  • Enthusiasm for the subject matter and role – an interest in growing the course and contemporising it whilst bringing relevant references to the table for students and staff.
  • Organising and developing ideas into concepts.
  • Core creative skills: image researching, communicating fashion trends, graphic typesetting and layout/illustration/collage and dynamic dissemination of ideas.
  • Industry standard software skills – knowledge of Adobe Suite and Clo 3D preferred but not essential; otherwise a willingness to learn relevant software.
