Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Planner

Location: Telford

Hours of Work: Mon to Friday 8.30am to 5pm

Reports to: Head of Planning

Job Role and Purpose: To organise ‘timely’ production planning and maintain scheduling of customer orders on a daily basis, together with stock replenishment to achieve excellent standards of stock availability and delivery performance to customers within agreed lead times. Ensure ‘best practice’ production planning and KPI monitors are adopted to maximise customer service, whilst continuously optimising the production scheduling systems. Ensure stock availability is optimised in-line with demand for zero shortages. Provide close liaison with production, purchasing, warehouse and customer service teams to support high standards of customer care. Effect a fast resolution to any production scheduling or delivery issues identified, with high standards of communication. Drive and support an Operations Excellence / lean improvement culture.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain production schedules within capacity and resource targets and co-ordinate the schedules with production to ensure inventory targets and customer demand is met.
  • Evaluate Raw Material and Consumable demand to ensure everything is in place for production.
  • Manage volume fluctuations considering sales vs forecast and anticipate production changes.
  • Manage life cycles of SKU's to ensure stock availability to meet business Customer OTIF.
  • Assist with Investigation of stock discrepancies and stock shortages to determine root cause.
  • Communicate with Customer Service on lead times and availability of products.
  • Problem solve issues that may arise with production scheduling and deadlines.
  • Ensure planning schedules support optimisation of production efficiency, plant utilisation, labour availability, material usage, changeovers and customer service.
  • Execute high standards of capacity planning across production for high OTIF.
  • Manage daily scheduling activities and take the lead in decision making for optimising plans and effect high standards of communication across the business.
  • Continuously evaluate planning, stock control systems and KPI’s for improvements.
  • Ensure KPI targets for production planning, stock availability, lead times, delivery performance and customer service levels are consistently achieved.
  • Promote new ideas, continuous improvement and learning.
  • Ensure full compliance with ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards.
  • You will be required to be flexible with working hours and provide cover for colleagues’ absences.

  • Excellent standards of practical production planning, stock control, communication, organisation, personal discipline, Health & Safety, quality of work, time management, problem solving, team collaboration and customer service. Demonstrate a high attention to detail and well organised.
  • Stock to be maintained at agreed levels to support customer service levels, with high OTIF.
  • Adherence to production schedules, defined lead times and agreed KPI monitors.

Knowledge / Experience / Skills

Essential:

  • Good practical understanding of production scheduling, stock control and ERP systems.
  • +5 years production planning experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must have excellent organisational skills.
  • Computer literate with excellent MS Office skills.
  • Good communication and rapport with supplier and work colleagues at all levels.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience with inventory management.
  • Knowledge of Navision ERP and Mattec production monitoring systems.
