Job description
Our mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What to expect

We're looking for an experienced Quality Systems Engineer to join our fast-growing company. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in Quality Management Systems within a highly regulated environment (ideally Aerospace), or within a start-up environment that is designing and building new advanced electric powered technology.

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all products and systems meet the rigorous aerospace industry legal and regulatory standards as we as our customer requirements. You will play a key role in maintaining compliance with the regulatory bodies and driving continual improvement across the businesses processes.

The candidate must be capable of working autonomously within a highly technical environment, able to communicate at all levels and ensure quality initiatives are well embedded in the company culture. The key requirement of this role is to drive the quality culture in Vertical forwards whilst maintaining our core values.

This role will be based out of Vertical's headquarters in Bristol, with regular presence required on-site here and at our test facilities in Kemble.

What you'll do

  • Develop, implement and maintain the organisations Quality Management Systems. Ensuring all documentation, including Quality manual, procedures and work instructions, are in compliant to ISO90001, AS9100 and other aerospace standards (Part 21 - Production Organisation Approval)
  • Develop operational system in line with business strategy with support from key stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Prepare and lead ISO9001 and AS9100 internal audits, driving corrective actions.
  • You will conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions for non-conformances.
  • You will support and maintain the external audit accreditation activity.
  • You will interface with regulatory bodies during audits and inspections
  • Develop, maintain and analyse Quality Metrix and KPI's to identify trends and areas for continual improvement.
  • You will play a key role in ensuring that quality processes and quality control is applied to all aspects of the aircraft build.
  • You will support training initiatives and promote a culture of quality and compliance across the organisation.
What you'll bring

  • A proven track record of deploying a quality culture in a fast-paced and dynamic Aerospace production work environment.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience in Quality Systems and Control and be able to demonstrate a proficient use of Quality and/or Integrated Management Systems.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Excellent communication, documentation and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong understanding of AS9100, ISOI9001 and aerospace compliance requirements.
  • Experienced with ISO9001 internal auditing (preferably AS9100-2016).
  • Experience managing ISO certified management systems
  • Knowledge of quality tools and Six Sigma methodologies and can demonstrate good problem-solving skills
  • A degree or the equivalent engineering qualification (HND/HNC).
Desirable Experience:
  • Experience of regulatory requirements in an aerospace approved organisation
  • ISO 9001:2015 or higher qualification
  • Knowledge and experience of regulatory requirements - CAA part 21.
  • Lean Six sigma qualification (i.e. green belt)
  • Experience in training or development of others
  • Knowledge of NADCAP requirements and special process audits

We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn't your average role but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.

Our approach promotes ingenuity and courage, while our environment builds success through diligence in safety and being open in the way we work. The only way we're going to assure the next chapter of aviation history is by working as a team, relentlessly, towards our goal.

Our people matter - we're not going anywhere without them. Which is why our company benefits go beyond the essentials.
  • 26 days holiday, plus bank holiday
