We are looking for an experienced Neonatal Discharge coordinator, outreach and safeguarding lead band 7 to join our Team.

Our NICU is the Level 3 unit for the North Central London area which provides specialist intensive care for critically ill babies. We also have close links with an on-site fetal medicine unit which is a regional, national and international referral centre for fetal medicine, caring for more than 7,000 patients each year. In addition, they have an internationally recognised multidisciplinary team (MDT) who offers individualised care for pregnant women and their families, when there is a concern for the health of an unborn baby. We hence can provide a wealth and varied unique range of experience.

There are an extensive range of opportunities for you to further your career for progression, including complex deliveries, exposure to babies requiring ITU care, involvement in governance, quality improvement projects and research. You will have the opportunity to support students and nurses undergoing their qualified in specialty course, and engage with a wide MDT to support families, promote family integrated care, and provide high quality care. You will also lead on the development of the Outreach service in line with the latest BAPM framework.

• To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse (or key worker) for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:
• Ensuring provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care
• Assessing nursing care and health education needs
• Development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care
• Including discharge planning for each patient
• To be responsible for the organisation and management of the department, including the supervision of students.
• To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care
• To be accountable for co-ordinating patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff
• To be responsible and accountable for Finance and Human Resources issues related to the department
• To be responsible for the implementation of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives
• To promote and participate in the implementation of the UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards and contribute towards achieving the Trust’s “Top 10” Objectives

• You should ideally possess a recognised teaching qualification and demonstrate the ability for and commitment to continue your ongoing development.
• You will maintain high standards of care throughout, communicate with the MDT, check and administer drugs according to guidelines, and support and foster safe practice on the neonatal unit.
