A local government authority in Burton upon Trent is seeking a Supervisor for its waste management team. The successful candidate will assist in managing waste collection and street cleansing services, utilizing in-cab data management systems for efficient resource deployment. Prior supervisory experience in waste management and an LGV C Class licence are essential. This role requires strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach. The position involves overseeing a 37-hour workweek with additional overtime as needed.
Salary from £31,022 to £33,699 per annum* (plus a temporary market forces supplement of £1.77 per hour for Class C qualified LGV driver)
East Staffordshire Borough Council’s waste management team is responsible for collecting refuse and recycling from over 55,000 properties each week and for keeping the highways, footpaths and open spaces in the Borough clean and tidy on a daily basis.
In March 2026, the Council will be introducing a weekly food collection service and is now looking to strengthen its supervisory team.
We are now looking to recruit a new Supervisor to join our existing team and to ensure that our high level of performance is maintained. You will assist the Operations & Fleet Manager with the operation and continuing development of the waste collection, street cleansing and public conveniences services.
A key task is to actively manage the in-cab vehicle data, tracking and management system to control and deploy resources in the most efficient way. You should have a good understanding of the health and safety implications of waste management and be able to impart this knowledge on others through training.
You must be able to remain calm under pressure, possess good communication skills and have a strong customer focus. Knowledge of the East Staffordshire area would be an advantage.
The successful candidates will have previous supervisory experience, with a background in waste collection or street cleansing. We are looking for candidates who hold a LGV C Class licence or are working towards this qualification.
You must be IT literate as the role involves the proactive use of an in-cab data management system to efficiently control resources.
A 37 hour working week, Monday to Friday with regularised hours working directly for the Council.
There is a requirement to work overtime as required on Public and Bank Holidays and, on occasion, at weekends, as directed by the Operations and Fleet Manager for which you will be paid at the appropriate rate. This will enable the Council to provide the most efficient and effective service, including over the Easter and Christmas periods.
