Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – Build the Energy Internet Protocol

About ZEAL

ZEAL is building the Energy Internet Protocol - a digital coordination layer that connects distributed energy assets to digital markets through a unified platform. We enable seamless flows of energy (electrons), intelligence (AI), and capital (value) across a programmable, autonomous grid.

Think TCP/IP - but for clean energy.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in London, UK, with the opportunity to relocate to Abu Dhabi, UAE, in the future. Relocation support and visa sponsorship provided.

The Role

As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you will lead the architecture, development, and deployment of ZEAL’s protocol and platform infrastructure. You will translate ZEAL’s mission into deeply technical execution - building scalable, intelligent, and secure systems that power programmable energy markets and orchestrate the AI-powered grid of the future.

Our first use case is focused on data centres - helping them optimise, store, and trade energy using real-time AI, flexibility markets, and smart storage systems. This is a deep-tech leadership role at the intersection of energy systems, AI, and decentralised infrastructure.

Your Responsibilities

• Design ZEAL’s multi-layer Energy Internet Protocol integrating distributed systems, DLT, and real-time automation
• Build low-latency, secure engines for energy transactions and market coordination
• Develop open, modular APIs to enable integration with DERs, batteries, and enterprise systems
• Build and deploy AI/ML models for demand forecasting, storage optimisation, and carbon-aware load shifting
• Integrate continuous learning pipelines and run real-time simulations for decision support
• Lead development of ZEAL’s Energy Operating Stack (eOS): Optimise | Store | Trade
• Architect scalable backend systems, DevOps pipelines, and high-availability infrastructure
• Recruit and scale a world-class engineering team
• Foster a culture of high performance, technical excellence, and clarity of execution

What We're Looking For

You are a systems builder with a track record of scaling infrastructure across digital and physical domains. You thrive in complexity and see the future of energy as programmable, intelligent, and decentralised.

Expertise in:

• Distributed systems, protocol design, and DLT/blockchain integration
• AI/ML for forecasting, optimisation, and control
• Infrastructure in energy, fintech, or IoT environments

Experience in:

• Leading engineering teams through MVP to production
• Designing platforms that bridge real-world assets with algorithmic decision systems
• Creating tokenised market frameworks and autonomous system logic

In your first 12–18 months, success looks like:

• Protocol Foundations – Architecting scalable infrastructure & data pipelines
• MVP Launch – Deploying live pilots across storage and energy trading use cases
• Product Readiness – Finalising commercial-grade platform stack and integrations
