The project will be conducted at the ICube Research Center located in the medical campus in the center of Strasbourg (France). The ICube, affiliated with Strasbourg University, brings together approximately 500 scientists coming from the areas of engineering, photonics, computer and medical sciences. Strasbourg is a lively and international city that offers a uniquely rich environment for translational and clinical research. The Strasbourg University Hospital, the Institute of Image-Guided Surgery (IHU), and the world largest training center in minimally invasive surgery IRCAD are all unified around the theme of development of novel technologies for diagnostic and minimally invasive treatment.
Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral researcher position in optical imaging systems for biomedical applications financed by the ARC Foundation for Cancer Research. The project involves the development of the novel catheter-based OCT imaging system to enhance the robotized flexible interventional endoscope for diagnosing and treatment of diseases in the digestive system. The successful candidate will work with the research group of dr. Michalina Gora supported by the ATIP-Avenir grant awarded by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). The group is focused on highly interdisciplinary projects that bridge photonics and robotics to improve performance of microscopic imaging modalities in organs with complex geometry and access. We are aiming at addressing existing clinical needs by developing prototypes and translating them to the clinical practice in close collaboration with medical doctors.
PhD degree in biomedical engineering, optical engineering, mechanical engineering, optomechatronics, or related fields.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and independent candidate that can lead an interdisciplinary project in collaboration with researchers, engineers and medical doctors. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, a proven track record in relevant research areas, as well as: Strong experimental research background in optical coherence tomography, confocal microscopy, endoscopic imaging or optical imaging systems for biomedical applications. Additional expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: optical design, optical systems fabrication, image processing, programming, robotics, automatics, 3D mechanical design.
The position is available as soon as possible for an initial duration of one year with the possibility to extend. To apply, please submit a short motivation letter, a full CV, names and contact information for three references, and most important three publications from previous research to: gora@unistra.fr.
