Tasks & Responsibilities
Reporting to the UK-based General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be located in the Group’s French offices in Paris and will play an important role in many aspects of the legal function of the Group, providing general legal, corporate and commercial advice from both a Group perspective and to different Agencies within the Group as and where required, with a particular focus on the Group’s French operations. The Legal Counsel will be part of a wider Legal Team based in London and, from day-to-day, will sit with the French-based Group Function – which, from October, will be moving to new offices within Paris, housing many of the French-based Agencies together with such Group Functions. In particular, the areas of responsibility required of this position encompass :
- Team management and responsibility – whilst the role has relative self-autonomy, the candidate must fit in well with the London-based Legal Team and local French Group Functions, as well as with the various French-based Agencies;
- Advising on social media marketing and influencer rules and legislation, including in particular Code de la Consommation, Loi Sapin 2, ARPP, Loi Évin and Loi n° 2023-451 (Loi Influenceurs – June 2023);
- Advising on all aspects of intellectual property and licensing matters, and related usage rights and restrictions on created content;
- The drafting and negotiation of PR / communications, social media marketing and event creation and management agreements with clients to ensure their signature on a timely basis;
- The preparation and negotiation of third-party supply contracts, including talent / influencer agreements;
- Drafting and negotiating NDAs / confidentiality agreements and data protection agreements;
- Overseeing filing, record-keeping and other corporate and administrative functions for Group companies, with a priority for those which are French-based – for example company secretarial matters and day-to-day corporate updates;
- Filing and handling of claims in the French courts relating to debt collection;
- Corporate compliance issues, in particular the GDPR and data protection obligations of the Group;
- Regularly reviewing and updating the Group’s standard form legal contracts;
- Assisting the HR department on material employment matters;
- Advising on and supervising litigation and dispute resolution processes;
- Performing research on applicable regulations and laws;
- Providing support with implementation of new company policies, guidelines and processes; and
- Generally providing support to the General Counsel and supervision of the Legal Team.
What will you bring – Essential criteria
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 year post-qualification experience gained either in a commercial in-house environment or a recognised law firm, and will be fluent in French and English (written and oral).
