Job description

Canada Excellence Research Chair in Astroparticle Physics

Faculty of Arts and Science

Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Application Deadline: May 21, 2025

Description

The Queen’s University Department of Physics, Engineering Physics and Astronomy invites applications from outstanding established scholars in Astroparticle Physics. The Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) program awards top researchers with up to $8 million or $4 million over 8 years to lead ambitious research aligned with Canada's Science, Technology and Innovation priorities. CERC positions are among the most prestigious globally, enabling chairholders to expand their impact through pioneering research programs at Canadian universities. The program aims to attract world-leading researchers to build a critical mass of expertise, enhancing Canada's reputation in research and innovation.

Applicants will build upon Queen’s existing research strengths, especially in astroparticle physics, including work related to dark matter, neutrino properties, and fundamental neutrino research. Successful nominees will collaborate with the McDonald Institute and SNOLAB, and should demonstrate strong alignment with these programs.

Eligibility and Requirements

Candidates should be outstanding scholars with a global reputation, qualified for a tenured Professor position. There are no restrictions based on nationality or residence. Researchers currently holding a full-time academic appointment at a Canadian institution can be nominated, but not by their current employer unless there is a demonstrated net benefit to Canada. Nominees will have up to 12 months to assume their position after acceptance.

Queen’s is committed to diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from underrepresented groups including Black, Indigenous, women, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.

Application Process

Applicants must submit:

  1. A cover letter addressing leadership, mentorship, research contribution, and diversity commitment.
  2. A full CV including publications, awards, grants, and research projects.
  3. A research proposal emphasizing diversity and inclusion.
  4. Identification of five impactful publications with role descriptions.

Additional information on career interruptions and circumstances is encouraged. Applications should be sent via email to CERC@queensu.ca.

Review of applications will be ongoing, with a minimum posting duration of 30 days. The position may also serve as a nomination for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair or similar roles.

Support and Contact

Queen’s provides support for applicants with disabilities. For accommodations, contact Ms. Jennifer Miller at jennifer.miller@queensu.ca.

Queen’s acknowledges its location on traditional Anishinaabek and Haudenosaunee territory.
