QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Required: Candidate must have earned a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university, seminary, or divinity school.
Preferred: Candidate has earned a Master’s or Doctor of Divinity/Theology Degree from an accredited college, university, seminary, or divinity school.

EXPERIENCE

The candidate must be a licensed, ordained Baptist minister in accordance with Baptist doctrine and procedures and has demonstrated a commitment to the call with five (5) years or more of experience as a pastor, an associate minister, or has served in a ministerial leadership position. Further, the ideal candidate must be well-versed in the African American historical experience, spirituality, consciousness, and culture and have a solid foundation in the interpretation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the tradition of African American prophetic preaching and teaching. The candidate must have experience working closely with clergy, staff, ministries, ministry and community leaders to advance the development and programmatic efficiency in fulfilling church goals, mission, and values.

SKILLS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Demonstrate superior communication and elocution skills in delivering biblically-sound messages with relatable life application that reaches across demographics and generations.
Possess advanced business acumen, church finance, organizational, and management skills.
Articulate a vision for the church that emphasizes and inspires continuous spiritual growth and development.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of social media and its effectiveness for worship and evangelism.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Planning and conducting worship services, preparing and delivering sermons, and serving as the lead in the observance of ordinances (Baptism and Holy Communion).
Conducting and teaching members and visitors in weekly prayer meetings and Bible study.
Visiting the sick and homebound.
Promoting evangelical growth and effectiveness beyond the walls of the church.
Establishing a presence to meet the community’s needs through engagement and outreach programs and projects.
Inspiring congregants to mature spiritually to operate in a spirit of excellence.
Encouraging congregants to use their God-given gifts and talents in living for and serving Christ.
Providing pastoral counseling, performing wedding ceremonies, conducting funerals, and performing children’s dedications.
Facilitating the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluation of ministries.
Leading with vision and ensuring reality by stating clear and precise goals, outlining a strategic plan for achieving goals, and equipping and empowering members to implement plans.
Developing leaders and members in performing assigned responsibilities and facilitating their training.
Presiding over all church business meetings.
Collaborating with the leadership on decision-making opportunities and managing the varied resources of the congregation with effectiveness and efficiency.
Promoting unity, seeking networking opportunities, and facilitating partnerships within the church body and the community.
Participating in local, state, regional, and national Baptist conventions, conferences, and activities.
