As a member of the Youth Psychiatry Program, you will use best practices to provide person-centred Social Work services to transitional-aged youth and their families. This includes assessment, therapeutic intervention, and discharge planning; in collaboration with the clinical team, clients, families, and hospital and community partners.

Duties:

• Assessment, short-term goal-focused treatment, and support to youth and their families and caregivers.
• Provide individual, family, and group therapy following best practice standards.
• Complete risk assessments and crisis intervention plans for clients at chronic high risk of self-harm and suicide.
• Engage clients, families, and caregivers in clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies with the interdisciplinary team.
• Advocate for clients, families, and caregivers to access appropriate services and resources.
• Collaborate, consult, and liaise with team members and community resources.
• Provide timely and comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments, treatment, and discharge reports.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of professional social work theories and practices.
• Document in the clinical record according to hospital, college, and legislative standards.
• Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required.
• Participate in and lead research and program evaluation activities.
• Participate in teaching, education, and supervision of Social Work students.
• Attend and actively participate in monthly Social Work Peer Consultation groups and discipline meetings.
• Stay current with hospital policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
• Update knowledge on professional standards through literature review, education events, and networking.
• Participate in program and discipline-specific committees and task groups.
• Provide educational presentations to community groups.
• Maintain flexibility in work schedule, including day and evening hours as required.
• Work in accordance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies, and procedures of the ROHCG.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Social Work is required.
• Minimum 2–3 years of clinical Social Work experience in a mental health setting.
• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
• Experience working with youth and families in mental health contexts.
• Knowledge and experience in concurrent disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, and evidence-based treatments.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, interprofessional clinical environment.
• Competence in psychotherapy, with experience in modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), or others, depending on program needs. Certificates or certification preferred.
• Understanding of early onset psychosis and other mental health issues, including substance use, in youth, in both individual and group settings.
• Strong knowledge of community resources relevant to youth and families.
• Knowledge of recovery-based programs.
• Familiarity with applicable legislated acts (e.g., MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act).
• Ability to prioritize tasks within a diverse caseload.
• Proficiency in electronic health record systems for clinical documentation and navigation.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
• English proficiency at level A- in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing; bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
