WHAT’S THE JOB?

As a Facility Maintenance Technician, reporting to the Operations Manager, you will conduct general building maintenance at National Defence sites in Thunder Bay, ON. This role also involves responding to reactive maintenance calls after hours and on weekends, on an on-call basis.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing various tasks such as general upkeep, repairs, painting, landscaping, snow removal, carpentry, plumbing, and other related duties.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, governmental agencies, and company directives related to building operations and safety, including TSSA standards.
  • Conducting risk assessments and developing pre-work safety plans and job plans.
  • Estimating time and materials needed for repairs.
  • Collaborating with the planner to order necessary materials and supplies.
  • Maintaining a professional and courteous communication style with clients, employees, vendors, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Keeping tools and materials organized and maintained at the work site.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Contract Representatives.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and control drawings; knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC, electrical systems, and building fabric.
  • Organizational skills and ability to support project plans with deliverables.
  • Research skills for specifications, drawings, and O&M manuals to perform repairs and adjustments.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar maintenance role.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and databases.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, at heights, and on rooftops.
  • A clear criminal record check and more than 5 years of Canadian citizenship for security clearance at National Defence sites.
