A healthcare service in Canada is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I for the Sturgeon Community Hospital. You will be responsible for collection, handling, and testing of specimens while providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate must have completed an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program and have relevant phlebotomy experience. This part-time position offers shifts that cover days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
The Sturgeon Community Hospital is looking to fill a Medical Laboratory Assistant I role where you, as the successful candidate, will have the opportunity to work both independently and as a member of our team where you are responsible for performing all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA I. With a customer service focused approach, you build productive and respectful customer relations and take responsibility for customer satisfaction while completing reception duties. You will be responsible for collecting specimens from a wide range of patients using your macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, urinalysis, pregnancy and occult blood testing. Your strong attention to detail and time management skills will flourish as you receive and sort specimens into the lab and prepare them for transport as well as ensuring quality control and maintenance of lab equipment. You have an ability to encourage others and build positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships while assisting in the orientation and training of new staff, coworkers and external clients. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited urinalysis course, including theory and practical. Phlebotomy experience within the last 2 years.
Urinalysis experience within the last 2 years. Recent experience using EPIC Beaker and Rover is an asset.
