The Opportunity

Position: Nuclear Safety & Licensing Analyst/Engineer/Scientist (various levels)

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • This job description encompasses a number of discrete functions within our nuclear safety and licensing team. Job responsibilities will vary depending on the specific capabilities and experience of the candidates.
  • The candidate will be primarily responsible for the conduct of nuclear safety assessments, analysis, and licensing products. Senior applicants, are expected to work as independent contributors with junior to intermediate applicants working under the direction of fully-qualified staff.
  • Areas of technical services include:
    • Deterministic safety analyses (specifically in reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, fuel and physics, fuel and fuel channel, and/or containment analysis), radiation safety and decommissioning.
    • Safety assessments such as hazard analysis (what-if, HAZID/HAZOP)
    • Environmental studies including those in support of environmental assessments or impact assessments
    • Siting studies or site evaluation
    • Probabilistic safety analyses (e.g., fault trees, event trees, probability-consequence evaluations).
  • All roles require analysis of technical results and report writing.
  • All staff are expected to contribute to the development of proposals and other business-related functions.
  • All candidates are expected to contribute or lead the preparation of technical reports suitable for submission to clients and to nuclear regulators (for example, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission).
  • Other duties as required.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Requires advanced knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices associated with science and engineering disciplines normally acquired in a 4-year university education. Additional project management and/or business/financial courses are considered to be an asset.
  • We are open to candidates at all experience levels.
    • For entry level candidates, pre-graduation experience such as an industry internship or co-operative education term is desired.
    • For junior candidates, 1-2 years of relevant industry experience is required.
    • For intermediate candidates, 3-8 years of relevant industry experience is required.
    • For senior candidates, 9 or more years of relevant industry experience is required.
  • Experience in any of the following industry codes including: ADDAM, CAFTA, DONJON, DRAGON, GOTHIC, MAAP, MODTURC_CLAS, RFSP, STAR-CCM+, TRACE, TUF, WIMS.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry is considered an asset. Prior nuclear industry experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with good project management practices is an asset. Formal experience in project management is not required, but is an asset.

  • For engineer applicants, Professional Engineering licensure in at least one Canadian provincial jurisdiction is an asset, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Kinectrics is open to qualified candidates across Canada.
  • Occasional travel to other Kinectrics’ locations, client sites, and key industry events will be required.
