A Canadian school district is seeking a dedicated School Psychologist for an immediate temporary assignment. 1.0 FTE School Psychologist

Student Support Services

This is a temporary assignment effective immediately to return of incumbent to full contractual FTE.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in School Psychology;
  • Certified School Psychologist with CHCPBC;
  • Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch is preferred.

The School Psychologist collaborates with individual teachers, school administrators, and school staff to develop and evaluate prevention programs. This may include:

  • Primary or Tier 1 prevention programs that involve all staff and students that foster the learning and mental health of students (e.g., evidence-based literacy and numeracy education in primary classrooms; prevention of bullying; social and emotional learning);
  • Secondary or Tier 2 prevention programs that are delivered to students who are at‑risk for learning or mental health difficulties;
  • Tertiary or Tier 3 academic, behavioural or psychosocial interventions for students with diagnosed disabilities or mental health difficulties.
Responsibilities
  • Successful teaching experience in the public sector is required and previous experience as a school psychologist within BC is preferred;
  • Be experienced in conducting/interpreting formal psycho‑educational assessments, behavioural assessments, including formal report writing;
  • Proven ability to work with SBTs to establish practical IEPs and behavioural plans;
  • Must be familiar with Ministry of Education Special Education categories and their requirements;
  • Must be willing and flexible to accept duties as assigned in the field of school psychology;
  • Assist schools in the identification and planning process, at both the school and district levels, for learners with complex needs;
  • Collaborate with school‑based teams to develop and implement pre‑referral interventions;
  • Provide information regarding the referral process;
  • Offer suggestions/recommendations surrounding educational program planning;
  • Conduct psycho‑educational assessments in accordance with District guidelines;
  • Meet with the school, parents/guardians, and the student as appropriate to discuss the results of the psycho‑educational assessment;
  • Provide a written report for each assessment, available to the school, the District and parents/guardians, and the student as appropriate;
  • Attend meetings (e.g., School‑based team, Integrated Case Management);
  • Participate on district committees where appropriate;
  • Develop information resources;
  • Provide in‑service to paraprofessionals, teachers, principals/vice principals;
  • Collaborate with community partners;
  • Conduct research on many topics relevant to the profession including literacy, numeracy, social‑emotional health and well‑being, behaviour, etc.;
  • Provide input and recommendations in relation to district‑level placement or placement review meetings;
  • Be knowledgeable of current curriculum and evidence‑based instructional practices;
  • Participate in ongoing professional development/in‑service in both regular and inclusive education;
  • Be committed to inclusion.
  • Must have a valid BC driver’s license.
