Job summary
A regional health authority in Kamloops is seeking a locum psychiatrist for a 3-month position. The role involves providing inpatient care at Royal Inland Hospital and outpatient services at the Community MHSU Clinic. Successful candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team, have teaching opportunities, and must hold a valid CPSBC license. This position offers a chance to engage in dynamic mental health programs and quality improvement.
Qualifications
- Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License (Full).
- Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient care and outpatient consultation in general psychiatry.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Teach medical students and family practice residents.
Locum location is Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in the Emergency Department and Acute Psychiatric Unit as well as Community MHSU Clinic Intake Program. RIH has a 26-bed acute psychiatric unit and provides acute psychiatric services to a range of individuals and families from throughout the Interior Health West region. This unit accepts referrals from smaller regional hospitals, community mental health programs, primary care physicians and other departments of the hospital. The Community MHSU Clinic is an Interior Health-funded mental health clinic that provides clinical services to people living in Kamloops and surrounding areas. The Clinic offers intake services as well as clinical care through multiple clinic programs including, Substance Use, Early Psychosis, ACT, Intensive Case Management, Seniors Mental Health, Counselling, and Treatment Support and Rehabilitation. There are also Telehealth opportunities to our more rural communities to provide consultation to the local general practitioners. This 3-month LOCUM position is in general psychiatry and is divided amongst two sites: RIH (80%) and Community MHSU Clinic (20%). This position provides an opportunity to work in two dynamic programs, providing inpatient care to individuals and their families as well as outpatient consultation. You would work with Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Nurses, Physicians, and others to provide the most client-centred, comprehensive care possible. You would have access to a range of medical specialists. Both programs offer the opportunity to teach medical students and family practice residents and to participate in quality improvement and program development activities. Teaching is an option given that the candidate already has an appointment through UBC Department of Psychiatry. Applicants interested in less than a full-time locum position should still apply.
